effects from benzos VS effects of alcohol
I'm a newbie to drugs, and am considering abusing some downers some time; I wasn't sure though if the buzz from doing valium or similar drugs like methaqualudes would be any better than the effects alcohol. any answers would be appreciated.

For me the effects for xanax and alcohol are very similar, but I tend to forget more when I am on xanax. Alcohol is really fun to do if you are at parties and shit, but I dont find xanax so fun for parties. I like to take xanax when i am just chilling around the house smoking pot and shit.

I'm not a newbie to alcohol and/or benzos. I say this with a bit of sorrow as I now get no 'recreational'effect from my script(s) of benzos. I used to self-medicate myself with both before seeing a shrink and being put on anti-depressants and Clonazepam(Klonopin). I'd stay away from methaqualone(Quaalude); very sedating, and years back when I could get them, I was a zombie...Sometimes for a couple of days after dosing. No fun in that. Since the effects from CNS depressants are generally similar, I have to ask you why it is that you are considering 'abusing downers?' If your answer is due to social anxiety - you know, general feelings of tenseness at gatherings, parties, etc. - I would probably opt for a long acting benzodiazepine. Diazepam(Valium) or Clonazepam(Klonopin) should loosen you up a bit for better social functioning. If you're looking for a buzz, I'd suggest alcohol. It's socially sanctioned, and while a dirty kind of inebriation, alcohol carries less risks for most people - most of the time. Hangovers suck, but they serve as an important reminder that you are ingesting what amounts to a weak poison. If it wasn't for hangovers, I fear that we'd have many times the amount of clinically diagnosed alcoholics. Either way, the last thing youwantto do is develop tolerance and physical dependency.Having had DTs from coming off alcohol, I can tell you it's horrible. I am physically dependent on Clonazepam as of this post. I am tapering my dosage with the assistance of my psch-doc, and all is going well. I'm on such a slow taper, that it will be eight months before I'm off - barring any breakthrough episodes of panic, or a recurrence of GAD(Generalized Anxiety Disorder). Whatever you choose to do, do it wisely. Don't play games with any CNS depressant. If you think this post is negative, I assure you it is not. It is just here to remind you to respect yourself, and any substances that you allow to enter your body. Enjoy all things in moderation. Treat your body and spirit with respect. Be safe! T PS. I know I'll always love the initial feeling that I get from benzos, esp. the short acting Alprazolam(Xanax). However, I must refrain from habitual use.*heavy sigh* |

Something else to keep in mind is that there is a cross tolerence between
alcohol and benzos (according to my MD). Take them together for a while and cut out either one and you will feel the difference. Same if you alternate between the two. They must stimulate some of the same nerve receptors in the brain. |
