Re: Sniffer Dogs
I'm pretty sure tryptamasta is right. They mainly train dogs to smell cannabis and cocaine, and i presume heroin. Monkey has heard that there are a select few who can smell MDMA but this could be completely false. I doubt any dogs would sniff out Ketamine.

Re: Sniffer Dogs
Dogs can be trained to smell almost anything but they're mainly concerned with drugs which cause a lot of problems (cocaine and heroin socially etc) and drugs which are imported (as these dogs may be used at airports) such as the above mentioned 3. MDMA is synthesised so isn't be imported, and K isn't being trafficed by huge gangs so isn't really of much concern. That's always been my theory at least.

Re: Sniffer Dogs
SWIM was identified by a passive drugs dog while in possession of MDMA early this year. Best bet is not to assume anything!

Re: Sniffer Dogs
As mentioned above dogs have incredibly sensitive noses and can isolate distinct smells however strong or weak.
They can be trained to sniff out anything. But it is a long process and very expensive to train a dog to go for a scent. Increasingly dogs are being trained to pick-up on the polymors of the plastic baggies we all use as opposed to the drugs that are carried within them. More birds with one stone. Beware. |

Re: Sniffer Dogs
In the USA dogs can sniff out meth. They did at swims house, 17 gms that was stored in one place. The dog also missed 14 gms. that was scattered throughout the house thanks to the old saying,"never keep all your eggs in one basket".

Re: Sniffer Dogs
Search the web for drugs, dog and <insert substance name here> and it becomes apparent that dogs can be trained to sniff almost anything.
Just as one can look at two persons and detect the difference by the way they look, dogs can do that by smell, even if they're not "smelly people". |

Re: Sniffer Dogs
The above comment is true.
Dogs can be trained to detect almost anything, but it is very unlikely that they would be trained to sniff out Ketamine, as it is not one of the main drugs. Dogs are typically only trained to detect Amphetamine, Cocaine, Heroin and sometimes MDMA. |

Re: Sniffer Dogs
Dogs often smell trace amounts of the chemicals that have been used to synthesize the drugs. It is not uncommon for dogs to sniff out badly synthesized MDMA.
SWIM is unsure about ketamine |

Re: Sniffer Dogs
Although they may not be particularely training to smell K. SWIM should still be extremely cautious if he/she is bringing something across a border, or rocking around with it in town.

Re: Sniffer Dogs
Under ordinary circumstances, a reasonable cause is required to initiate a search, but after the launch of US DHS' TSA program, they restrictions on searching is a lot more lenient for air travels.
Many airports in the U.S. have instruments like this the Smiths Ion-Scan or the Thermo EGIS defender. SWIM would suspect border crossings have these instruments as well. http://www.smithsdetection.com/eng/IONSCAN_400B.php These instruments are placed right at the boarding screening area and TSA is allowed at its discretion to search anything you bring and if they suspect anything, they're allowed to conduct a further test. These are similar to gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer and are usually pre-programmed to look for chemical make up signatures of explosives and controlled substances, including, MDMA (refer to Smiths' website shown above). Too add a new substance, they simply update the database. |

Re: Sniffer Dogs
So SWIY, that scanner as able to see through things like an x-ray machine, while being able to detect certain chemical / molecular makeups?

There is at least one model that is a like a walk through metal detector now. It blows a slow stream of air through the subject and detects the most trace amounts of explosives and psychotropic chemicals. This machine is the Smiths Sentinel II. SWIMs never seen the Sentinel II, but the Ion Scan, he has. http://www.smithsdetection.com/eng/Sentinel.php |
