The DAMN opiate itches

Whenever swim makes a potent batch of pod tea, or takes a decent amount of tramadol, he gets itchy EVERYWERE. Bad! It usually happens when the effects start to wear off like the beginning of the comedown. I know this is pretty normal but I was wondering if anyone had some tips or tricks to relieve some of the annoying itching

Thanks swimmers!

Re: The DAMN opiate itches

Antihistamines. SWiM also finds that the sedating ones (e.g., doxylamine, promethazine, diphenhydramine) help him to achieve a good nod as well. If you overdo it though you'll just end up going to sleep. Try taking the antihistamines a good 30 min. before dosing on the opiates to ensure they've started working.

Some people apparently like the itch, and SWiM does indeed find them bearable (along with everything else) with high enough doses of opiates, but enjoying itching seems odd to me. I have known a few people whose itching reactions were so bad it constituted an allergy tho., so I suppose the degree of itchiness is somewhat variable.

Re: The DAMN opiate itches

Swim has to admit he likes the itch too. It's sort of comforting.

Re: The DAMN opiate itches

This may sound weird too but this swim has to admit that she like the itching too, when swim comes down swim loves a good scratching. Swim thinks that it feels really good. But if your swim doesn't like it then do as someone else suggested and use some dyphenhydromine or some vistaril (much weaker won't make swim sleepy)

Re: The DAMN opiate itches

SWIM hates the itchies, he gets them terrible off even small doses of hydrocodone. It gets so bad that it's basically like hives all over his body. He finds the best tool in his arsenal to combat them is the antihistamine meclizine, taken 45 min before dosing the opiate, because it also combats some of the dizzyness he sometimes gets with high dose opiate use. It may be prescription in some locations but is slowly entering the OTC market, so if SWIY can find it SWIM highly recommends it

Re: The DAMN opiate itches

This is definately covered in the search engine.

Opioids release histamines. These cause itching. You need an antihistamine to prevent itching. Diphenhydramine, loratidine, etc. These are all common and available at your local pharmacy. I personally recommend either promethazine (prescription here) or diphenhydramine.
