Does alcohol stop SSRI's from working?

SWIM is on celexa(17 days), he isn't supposed to mix it with alcohol but he was under the impression it just intensifys its drousyness effect, not that it stops its depression effects.

However he has noticed when he doesn't drink for a few days the effects become more apperent, but this might be placebo. He hassen't really noticed any effects from Celexa so far, good nor bad, just some sexual problems.
