I don't want to get into the government vs. human consciousness matter but one thing in the original post got my attention. he said something along the lines of "everyone goes through this phase".

Now it is sad (at least for me) to see that people see their lives as phases and not a continuous jorney. "Oh, I used to listen to eminem in my rebel phase but now I listen to <insert grown up music>".

As if we're constantly progressing in our lives and the point we are at is always better than the point we were at. As if drugs are a phase we have to live through and leave behind. This isn't a finite physical object so "there is no more left" of that drive. You can still integrate these phases intelligently to your life and keep on adding on top of them. Then you look up and, voila, you have got a life for yourself.
