Oral use - Alprazolam: chewing vs. swallowing

Swim has read on a drug experiences site that chewing xanax tablets will increase the effects. Seems sketchy...true or false, anyone know?

SWIM has chew and done under the tongue a couple times...he has some comparative trip reports somewhere with same doses and a bunch of different levels of tolerance and different administration roots. But he thinks it kicks in a little fast (maybe just 2-5 minutes) and hits a LITTLE harder, but not much.

The answer is yes, with any pill if chewed the active compounds are absorbed faster in the stomach..swim speaks from experience

it'll hit you harder, but shorter. It all equals out, just depends on the high you want.

when the pill is chewed it causes rapid absorption either through the mouth or the GI tract depending on if the resulting powder is swallowed so yes it hits you faster and harder but with shorter duration

plus when it's chewed or parachuted, what ever, it creates more surface area to be absorbed faster, and more at once.

since it's rapidly absorbed wudnt it make say a 5mg dose of valium produce effects equal to 10 or 15mg valium unchewed just shorter duration? or a 5mg buzz at full peak faster?

Chewing pills has never made swim have to take a lower dose . . . just more later on. In swim's honest opinion, he'd just swallow all pillows (with the exception of time release coated pills, oxycontin, and certain benzos). Sublingually may be swiy's best bet here. Stick it under swiy's tongue and let it dissolve. It may taste very bitter at first, but ask anyone who's sublingually administered benzos, it's well worth it (and the bad taste seems to avert with the quicker peak effects).

Drop a normal alprazolam tablet into to water.. See what happens. Now imagine if swiy were to drop it into a liquid with an acidic ph.

After swiy does this come up with swims own conclusion, does it really matter.

For those swims who are not going to do this expirement, it takes give or take 40 seconds for the tablet to dissolve in water.

The taste is not worth the time. This myth is busted. Chewing up alprazolam tablets and then swalloing them vrs just swallowing them whole will not increase the effect and any precieved it effect of it coming on faster is probably placebo.

sublingual is a different ball game. so is any pill with time release or made of different fillers that do not dissolve as fast as the typical alprazolam tablet.

SWIM also once dissolved an oxycodone/APAP tablet in a glass of cold water in hopes of increasing the effects, but the pill was meant to be broken down quickly for quick pain relief. So, what SWIM discovered was that the pill dissolved almost totally in only a few minutes.

However, one must take into consideration that all manufactures make their tablets a little different, and this may be true for one brand and not for another. Everyone knows the time-release oxycodone will kick in a lot harder if they are crushed/chewed... as the newspapers have made headlines from the casualties. The same would hold true for time-release alprazolam. Chewing a couple time-release alprazolams by a benzo naive individual may very well end up causing... problems.

SWIM agrees very much with Spare Chaynge.
SWIM doesn't think its really worth it. He has chewed them a few times. It may make them kick in faster but from SWIMS experience Alprazolam when just swallowed only takes about 15-20 minutes to start kicking in anyway. Sometimes he has felt his alprazolam kick in in literally 5-10 mins. He also noticed no difference in intensity When chewing as opposed to swallowing. If we were talking about a drug with a slower absorption rate, SWIM would probably recommend chewing to make it hit faster but as said its really pretty pointless when we are only talking about a 5-10 minute difference here.
