Health - Opiate Constipation

Swimmies been stopped up for about 2 weeks now due to opiates. Whats the best remedy for opiate constipation? laxitives?...and how many other swimmies get bad constipation due to opiates?

id jsut use miralax haha. swim used to wrk at a retirement home where many residents were on heavy opiates for chronic pain and all that was used was miralax. swim has used many opiates but never suffered constipation.

SWIM KNOWS THIS IS THE WORST!!!!! It has happened to him twice. The problem is easily prevented by drinking lots of water during your opiate experience, a well balanced and nutritious diet (containing lots of fiber), and the occasional over the counter stool softener WHEN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

Swim finds plum juice an easy way to avoid constipation while using opiates, because it contains a lot of fiber, and promotes regularity. Also avoid eating when you're high on opes, even if you get the "dope munchies". It pays off. Avoid greasy and fat foods during the time of your dose.

All of these things are simple precautions that have proven to be successful in preventing constipation while using opiates . . . and you don't want to have to use an Enema. Those things make your bowels feel very very odd, and it's very awkward to administer (unless of course you dosed your opiates in the same route!!)

Like mentioned above water and fiber are key elements.Another remedy would be to take a laxitive that contains a stool softener.If you get one that is just a laxitive you will probably feel the need to "go" BUT it will be difficult because the stool inside is already hard.SWIM has been there MANY times and has a abdominal condition that also requires a high fiber diet so that he can "go" daily.

Prunes. Then a hole packet of sennakot from boots. No milk though.
If you can find them, Sedlitz powders are fab.
If you are really desperate, get a suppository and shove that up.
Swim also swears by his Barclaycard bill.

Using a laxative should be enough to help.

Also, using an opioid antagonist that does not cross the BBB will reduce/prevent nasty physical symptoms, like constipation. There is actually a FDA approved drug as of April this year for administering alongside opioids in the hospital to get rid of constipation and increase bowel motility.

Swim suggest MILK OF MAGNESIA omggg its serisouly the best thing ever invented it says drink 2-4 tbsps but swim drinks about 6 and it only takes about 3-5 hours. This stuff is a godsend to all please try and let me know lol

never used opiated amico but i can tell you that with a couple days up on the go-e you can be backed up pretty bad
