Need An Explanation

Swims friend tried dmt for the first time the other night. He is paralyzed from the waist down and has been for about five years now. While swims friend was in his trip he had his eyes closed, and swim noticed that his leg started tapping. After swims friend "came back" he was saying he was able to feel how tense the muscles were in his leg, and that he hadn't felt that since his accident. Swim thinks it was maybe just muscle spasms. Does anyone have an idea why this would happen?
