Side effects - 2nd day on zoloft (Sertraline)...orgasms are pointless...should swim quit now?

This is swims 2nd day on 25mg of zoloft for anxiety/panic attacks.

swim can achieve errection and ejaculate, but the orgasm is almost without feeling. It's like...pointless.

swim has a girlfriend...and even without a girlfriend...this would be a downer. This is a huge deal.

swim hears so many people having PERMANENT sexual side effects? Is this true? Should swim just stop the medication now?

swim is 22..swim doesnt want to have sexual side effects for the rest of his life.

No, It won't be permanent. I HIGHLY doubt it. You are getting this effect mostly from the increase in serotonin. Causes loss of libido and inability to orgasm. At least it did for Swim.

Chances are, the side effect will be constant through the medication. Talk to your doctor about the side effect and how it bothers you.

Zoloft for anxiety/panic attacks? I'll never understand doctors.

well zoloft takes about a week to fully kick in and your going to be in it for the worst. when swim was on zoloft swim couldnt ejaculate for the world. swim means swim had to litterally stay their and focus on ejaculating like it was a S.A.T test. swiys feelings will change soon and for the better but for the ejaculation, lets just say if swiy took opiates before you know what swims talking about. Zoloft is a wonderfull expierence and can widen your world to things you never thought were possible/lovable/more friendly ect ect. enjoy but good luck busting a nut lol.

SWIM was on Paxil(paroxetine) for a while and he could acheive a good orgasm, but only after 1-2 hours of sex. SWIM discontinued his treatment with the SSRI and chose an SNRI instead. Much more effective with nearly zero side effects.
As for anxiety, SWIM had decent results with the benzodiazepine Xanax(alprazolam). Benzos are not recommended for long term treatment though.

It's right there in the PDR: Sexual side-effects. So doctor's are supposed to know this about this class of drug (SSRI's). But many think not enjoying sex is a negligible effect. Considering they probably never got layed in their lives.

SWIM would suggest waiting it out, the enhanced time to orgasm is worth the wait but definitely give it some time, at least a week. After your body starts to develop some serotonin tolerance things may become different.

Well the nausea and the other side effects have pretty much vanished now. It's been like a little over a week now since swim started the zoloft. Been doing the 50mg for the last 4 days or so.

Swim can still achieve an errection and oragasm but its harder to achieve errection and orgasm.

SWIM would like to note SWIOP is developing a tolerance and who knows what the future will hold. He would also like to say the time-to-erect is easy to understand as a problem :/ At this point SWIM would wait it out some more but SWIM is not a sexual being. If it is a weighty problem then SWIM would suggest SWIOP definitely see his doctor. There are many different SRIs that have slight nuances, SWIM would not be concerned at this point and would work toward whatever would make SWIM happier. SWIM would also wish SWIOP best of luck and hopes he can find some relief from his anxiety.

My experience with Escitalopram (SSRI) is that when you start taking you will experience the inability to orgasm (it is possible haha but will take a while and probably wont be worth it) but once the medication is working fully the ability will come back and be stable for the duration of the course

citalopram/ celexas similar- first month its just too much effort to come,,once you settle in to it I average gettin horny just the same as before bout once a night, but bustin a nut pleasurably without efforts about 1 in 2 days, your still horny the other day but god damm it gets to be too much like hard work,,,buddy said zoloft sucked anal rimcheese too.

Just stick with the Zoloft. It's good medicine & does exactly what it's suppose to. I've been on it for years because of wartime PTS. While it is true that it has sexual side-effects for the first year or two, they seem to go away after that & everything returns to normal. I've never heard of any permanent damage....that's a new one to me.

That's my advice, for what it's worth. Maybe you'll see it or maybe Sitbck will come along, delete it, & send me a nasty little rep-gram as he has been doing lately.

yeah just backing up what the last guy said really,,there seem to be side effects with most ssri's but they do lessen as your body gets used to them (I got tiredness and sweating ones to)- I keep taking it coz it works wonders with the depression side of OCD.
