Overdose - friend dies of OD mixing opiates and BZD's

this morning swim was informed that his good and long term friend died last night of a drug overdose. this is unofficial but his friend took about 30 mg's of methadone and 8 mg's of klonopin while hanging out with several other friends. then later, when he was home alone he took an unknown amount of suboxone. he could have also taken xanax at this time too.

i know it seems pointless but im just putting it out there to let people know about the dangers of mixing

It is definitely not pointless, but a tragically serious matter. It is unfortunate what happened to swim, but I am glad you shared because it only emphasizes the dangers of mixing downers. This post is quite the opposite of futile actually, and should remain at the top of the forum just to show that drugs are not a joke. I am very sorry about your friend.

swim also had an acquaintance od from mixing opiates and benzos. in that case, it was oxycontin and xanax. everybody, be warned: this is a dangerous combination of drugs and caution should be exercised when taking it.

yea the first 5 minutes swim met his gf she got him snorted out on oxycontin and xanax. swim didint know it was a dangerous combo and is glad he only blacked out. swim no longer mixes these two drugs after finding out how many deaths are related too it. swim feels lucky he is alive cuz he had no tolerence to either drug and it was his first time using oxycontin. swim is curius to what the cause of death is from mixing xanax and oxycontin

It makes me really sad to here this. Swim has had a few friends go out because of opiate overdoses, one of which was mixing benzos with heroin. Caution should be exercised, but unfortunatley too many people out there are not educated or frankly think they are superman. My condolences.

Please make sure to educate others you encounter on what happened, and the dangers of mixing.

Swim does this ad nauseam in his area because he knows plenty of users dead from mixing the two.

I am sorry for your loss. Please take solace in knowing it was likely very peaceful.

With this in mind, how long should swim wait after taking xanax to take hydrocodone? or vice versa? Is it enough to wait 8-12 hours, or should swim put at least a day or two in between use of one or the other?

it depends on the dosage of each, how experienced of a user is swiy with these? swim would say at small doses 8-12 hours would be quite safe

In reply to all three, please always use drug names instead of brand names, or at least mention the drug names as well. Brand names often differ between countries, and this is an international forum. It is even more important in this case to use drug names instead of brand names so everyone knows which drugs are discussed, because it might make someone aware of the possibly fatal consequences of mixing it with other drugs, while that person wouldn't have known it if only the brand name would be used.

And in reply to the last post, the cause of death when mixing Oxycodone with Alprazolam is respiratory failure. The CNS(central nervous system) get's depressed by opioids(like Oxycodone) and Benzodiazepines(like Alprazolam), which are both CNS depressants. When combined, they add up in their CNS depressant properties and depress the CNS(which, among things, regulates breating) to fatal levels, which finally causes your respiration to stop.
