Re: did a friend dying affect you?

Swim never had a close friend die, but many people he knew but not too well have died, usually from assorted opioids + alprazolam or alcohol + alprazolam. OD deaths have never affected Swim, and if they have, they just make him want to be more careful and avoid risky/stupid combos.

Sorry to hear about Swiy's friend.

ill second that, he was a real g. no doubt. its gonna be hard for swim to get over this too. the deceased and swim were tight. but yeah this is the first time this has happened to me, which is somewhat surprising considering the crowd i hang with.

Re: did a friend dying affect you?

swim has had 5 friends in the last 3 years either die from heroin overdoses or drunk driving. Wreckless crowd, to say the least. one of them was a really really good friend of swim's, and his death sparked swim's addiction into full force. I suppose a rational person would put down the heroin after something like that, but swim had a totally different reaction..

Re: did a friend dying affect you?

Sorry you are going through this experience. The guy who swim first tried morphine and oxy with and who first introduced her to mushrooms OD'ed and died shortly thereafter. Swim remembers that day she first met him, and she knew it would end badly, he was going down fast and using ridiculous amounts of drugs, throwing up, blacking out, stealing stuff and running from the police.. We weren't close, but that kind of thing still shocks you hard. It didn't change swim's use though, right around the time of his death was when she was starting to get into IV use and such. I think part of it is that one can feel so far removed from such a situation, like "it will never happen to me" you know? Or use so you don't have to think about those things.. Since then she's known several other acquaintances to die from drug overdoses and suicides. Now that she is off dope it is strange to hear about old acquaintances who are still caught up in it, like it makes swim feel that she was definitely one of the lucky ones, but that she could just as easily be one of the ones who died or is still stuck in the same old mess.. it's a weird feeling. Good luck to you in dealing with your friend's death, and sorry to hear about it.

Unhappy Re: did a friend dying affect you?

Swim was doing "tough love" stint with brother on methadone. He had gone to rehab for about 6 weeks and was clean. When he got out he was in a great sober living home. With all the knowledge in the world about being clean and attempting to take the same dose of drugs you were taking before becoming clean, he did just that. He took his usual dose of methadone and a few valium on top of that. He went to sleep and never woke up.The fact that his mom kicked him out of her home, stopped taking his calls or speaking to him until he got treatment haunts her to this day.

Sometimes "tough love" doesn't work out the way you expect. He was 32 and all swim has of him are ashes. He deserved a better life...

Re: did a friend dying affect you?

swims friend died earlier this year from OD or a bad mixture. Just a week before he disappeared swim met him, he was raving about these new SR mega xanax pills he was getting on prescription. That he only got 100 every 2 months so he had to conserve some. Swim told him he better just take the prescribed dosage then else he's gonna fiend like hell.week later he had od'd on them, going to assume it was a mix with alcohol. he left behind a new born baby son only a few months old. he had been calling swim after swim met him but didn't feel like talking so , never answered. this haunts swim still..

Re: did a friend dying affect you?

Sorry to hear of swiy's experience, its such sad news.
Swim has had 3 friends die from OD'ing. One being quite recent, such a shame as he was clean for four years, his girl left him and he used not knowing the stength of the H. He was found dead the next morning. Swims close friend who died about 3 or so years ago, gave up on life after his mother died (from a bad reaction to some certain medication) there was nothing he wanted but to get high on H,there was no helping him. Swim saw him the day before he died when he was in hospital, that was tough for swim.
Swim swore she'd not use again, as at that point in time she just dabbled in H, that only lasted a few months.
Another close friend of swim died from takeing an E last year, since then she has never touched and will never again take an E. She never thought one E would kill a guy, swim was in total shock. RIP boys!

Re: did a friend dying affect you?

yeah, my best friend died on the day after christmas 2007. it was also his 20th birthday. he didn't od, he had cancer, so we all knew it was comming. my life has not been the same since tho

so yes, my friend dying really really affected me and those around him. it wasn't just a friend dying tho, it was more who he was and how he struggled. i have had other friends die and never felt this way before
