A 34-year-old mother of three is accused of getting drunk and high with her kids.
The Elyria woman was charged Monday with multiple counts of corrupting a juvenile with drugs and endangering children after police found her staggering around looking for her children, ages 13, 15 and 17.
The woman told Elyria police she wanted to report her children as being out of control and drunk, the police report said, but she didn’t know where they were.
Police located her 13- and 17-year-old girls at their estranged father’s house, who has custody of the children, and learned that they had been drinking liquor with their mother all weekend before choosing to walk home, the report said.
The 13-year-old was even sent on a neighborhood mission with $5 to buy her mother a “nickel bag of weed,” the report said. She later smoked the marijuana with her mother in the backyard of her mother’s home, so her mother’s boyfriend wouldn’t know she did drugs with her children, the 13-year-old told police.
The 17-year-old didn’t smoke marijuana with her mother but told police she and her siblings have purchased the drug on their mother’s behalf over the last four years because they are more familiar with the dealers in the area.
The children’s father told police he and his wife had been separated for five years, and that he had sole custody of the children because of his wife’s extensive drug abuse, the report said.
He added that his wife doesn’t usually get visitation but seemed to be doing better and wanted to spend a weekend with the kids, the report said. He told police he wouldn’t allow them to visit again because of the danger they were put in.
Police later found the 15-year-old son of the estranged couple at his mother’s home and gave him a ride back to his father’s residence.
The boy told police he didn’t drink with his mother because he was taking painkillers for a recent injury, the report said.
He also said his mother had bought his sisters alcohol, causing them to get really drunk.
Police eventually located the woman an hour later at her home about 1 a.m. Monday, and charged her. She had already been crying, the report said, and contended that she had never given her kids alcohol or done drugs with them.
When police asked why she was crying, she said she was upset about how her children had been acting, according to the report.
