Drug info - Using a vaporizer - DMT

SWIM owns a vaporizer, HerbalAire, and has been offered some DMT. Can he use his vaporizer to vape the drug? Is the vape able to heat it to a hot enough temperature? Will it destroy the vaporizer?
The vaporizer goes up to 400 Fahrenheit.

DMT vaporizes at around 60-80 C (140 – 176 F). Usually the problem is that the vaporizer can’t get low enough and burns the DMT rather than vaporizing it.

Swim would recommend vaping using the same pipe that you would smoke meth with. If swiy uses his vaporizer, its going to stink like endless mentioned. The taste will also stay, when blazing up some buds it won't be very pleasant.

Firstly, Swim does not use any meth or crack and will leave the construction of a crack/meth pipe to his last resort.

Secondly, SWIM has read that it turns into a liquid before becoming gaseous. Is that true? Will it destroy my vaporizer when it is in liquid state??

Can he smoke it, does it have to be vaporized??

SWIm's vape can be set at any temperature below 400 F so that's not an issue.

Yes, it melts into a liquid state before it vaporizes and can run down into your vaporizer and mess it up (depending on the particular vaporizer model you're using). That’s why SWIM uses a test tube instead of a pipe. With a test tube, he places it at the bottom, and when it melts, it stays at the bottom of the tube and then quickly vaporizes away.

Yes, you can smoke it. Many people put it directly on top of mint leaves in a normal pipe. That way when it melts before it vaporizes it just gets absorbed into the mint leaves below it instead of falling into the pipe. Some people use ashes instead. SWIM will sometimes use calcium carbonate for this purpose. Just don’t let the flame touch the DMT at all or it will burn instead of vaporize.

Thanks for info, SWIM thinks the test tube is easiest. The melted DMT will definitely run into the vape and who knows how much damage it will cause.

Now the only problem: finding a test tube....

When searching for possible ways to smoke DMT SWIM saw one guy post about using a test tube clamped to a lab stand. The DMT was placed at the bottom of the test tube. A 2 hole rubber stopper was at the other end. There was a glass tube going through 1 hole in the stopper. This tube went down into the test tube near the DMT. This was where the air would enter from outside the tube. There was another 1 inch glass tube in the other hole in the stopper that extended out of the tube. It had a clear vinyl tube attached to it. This was what you put in your mouth. But there’s a simpler setup you can easily put together that doesn’t require you to cut any glass tubes.

Here’s what you need:

1 test tube with a side arm like this one.


1 foot of vinyl tubing (the stuff they carry at your local hardware store) sized to fit the side arm of the test tube for you to inhale the vapor with.


1 rubber stopper with 1 hole in it (sized to fit your test tube):


1 borosilicate glass thistle funnel to stick into the rubber stopper for air intake:


1 lab support stand


1 test tube clamp to attach your test tube to the lab stand




So it’s like this.

Place the DMT in the bottom of the test tube clamped to the lab stand.

Close the test tube with a 1 hole rubber stopper that has a thistle inserted into it. The glass tube of thistle should extend down through the rubber stopper into the inside of the test tube so that it's right over the DMT to allow fresh air to enter right were the DMT is.

Attach the vinyl tubing to the side arm of the test tube.

Use a lighter to heat the outside bottom of the tube where the DMT is. Keep heating it. The DMT will melt, then start boiling and then producing vapor.

As soon as the test tube fills with vapor, put the vinyl tubing in your mouth and inhale all of the vapor in one shot. Note that if you don't wait for the test tube to fill with vapor and you start inhaling right away, the vapor will be very hot, and you'll likely cough it out, or not be able to finish the dose in one shot. Once you get the hang of it you can easily get a massive dose in one inhalation.

Be careful, this method is one of the most efficient ways to vaporize DMT and so you'll get much more out of your DMT than you're probably used to getting. What I mean is that, if it normally takes you 3 tokes to get off with your old method, with this method you can get off in 1 toke and so you better use less material. It takes much less if you get it all in one inhalation and it hits you much harder. It's like this, 50 mg vaporized in 3 inhalations is many times weaker than 50 mg vaporized in 1 inhalation. So please adjust your dosage downwards a little bit.

This is a good way to vaporize 5-HO-DMT and 5-MeO-DMT as well.

Some DMT vapor is going to condense and stick to the sides of the test tube. You should clean the tube between usage so that a build up of DMT doesn't occur.

To clean out the test tube, just rinse with acetone. That will dissolve all the DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, 5-HO-DMT, etc.

Thanks for the reply. That sounds like a great set-up, swim will try this method. They way swiy explains it it would work much better than the meth pipe(which works well itself), no vapor would be lost and no worries of the pipe burning anything.

69ron, would a lightbulb vaporizer work/work well with DMT? Sure others than just Swim would like clarification. I have read it would work, but would like to ask here.

Yes a light bulb vaporizer should work just fine. But SWIM never tried it himself.

The setup SWIM uses above costs about $20.

Swim has used a lightbulb for vaping dmt, but it actually doesn't work as well as the meth pipe swim is currently using. The surface area is so big its almost like once its boiled down it wants to go away from the flame. Swiy will have to hold it in one spot to keep it from running, which can be hard to do after the first hit. Before you know it it will have run all over the bulb. So far 69Rons method sounds like it works the best.

Just stating after reading the previous post, using a lightbulb in a pointed shape works well to solve this problem for Swim with other substances. It makes it much harder to things to "run" when its that type of bulb. I tried to find a picture but cant, sorry. Swim would post his vape but has no camera.

Well, a light bulb actually costs about the same as a test tube. Is there some advantage it has over a test tube?

Unlike a typical light bulb made of very thin glass, a test tube is made out of thick fire resistant borosilicate glass that is specifically made to withstand the heat of a flame without shattering. Some light bulbs will shatter from the heat of a flame, so be careful.

Online auction sites sell liquid filling chambers for the volcano vaporizer. If its good enough for a liquid, and dmt turns to liquid before it vaporizes, then this would work perfectly for you. I don't have one personally but i intend to see how my el'cheapo vaporizer works turned on an angle so it won't drip out.

I've always enjoyed sprinkling it in a spliff before rollin it. We call it salty potatoes.
