Tramadol losing it effects on me?

SWIM started using Tramadol about a month or so ago, and he loves the euphoric feeling he gets from them. He usually only uses them 1-2 days a week and does about 400-500 mg with no problems. Well he used 500 mg yesterday and today he did about 400 mg, but he just did not seem to get the same effects. With him using only 1-2 days a week could he be getting use to them or could it have been one of those things where he had a full stomach, etc.

Re: Tramadol losing it effects on me?

SWIM would imagine that SWIY is gradually building up a tolerance to them. SWIM takes tramadol daily for depression and they work just fine for that still but SWIM did used to take them recreationally also and found that she built up a tolerance to them fairly quickly. SWIM would reccomend SWIY waits at least three days before taking them again ... longer if SWIY can ... the effects will be better the longer SWIY can hold out for!

Also ... is SWIY aware that tramadol has a ceiling-limit of 400mg, SWIM thinks, which means if SWIY takes any more than that then SWIY is not gonna get any higher so it's just a waste ... and, importantly, did SWIY know that at levels of 400mg or higher SWIY is risking having a seizure? Tramadol can (and does) cause many people to fit at high levels so be real careful my friend. Do a search for more info on this forum - there's plenty of info and advice about this stuff out there.

Re: Tramadol losing it effects on me?

Euphoria generally stops at the 300-400mg mark depending on the person. Unpleasant effects (SSRI/SNRI) can continue with increasing dosages. Usually too much sedation, vomiting, nausea, etc.

Swim used to take tramadol in the 300mg range about once a week to once a month, but for some reason, it no longer works even with zero tolerance and zero opioid usage. Even taken 1/2 year break and still get nothing now. It does produce sedation, nausea, etc, generally opiate effects, but ZERO euphoria and ZERO contentment. Swim used to nod on this shit like it was straight heroin.

No one has ever been able to even speculate as to why Swim no longer gets effects, and has never heard of this happening. It's like Swim's body developed some type of permanent tolerance to it.

an interesting post that made me think about my own experiences with tramadol.

That's interesting cos when SWIM used to take high doses of tramadol she had the opposite effect that one would usually associate with opiates: ie she felt like she was taking a stimulant rather than going on the nod ... it was unpleasant though SWIM agrees - SWIM would equate it with a nasty caffeine buzz from like too much coffee or Red Bull or something. SWIM assumes this is a reaction to the SSRI-like effects of tramadol - must be surely?
Although SWIM has never come off tramadol completely in the last two years she did cut right down to 50mgs a day (from 400mgs) and yet sometimes she will top-up her dose and yet she too has all but lost any euphoric opiate-like qualitities that she experienced right at the beginning of her use/experiences with tramadol - which is a shame, lol.
SWIM put it down to her use of other (stronger) opiates and class A drugs also - she didn't realise that others had had similar experiences. Good to know!

Re: Tramadol losing it effects on me?

Swim did try some stronger opioids, but never things like really high dose usage or IV. He also would mix, for example, snorted heroin and tramadol to top it off, or hydromorphone snorted and tramadol.

Why would tramadol stop having mu receptor interaction on Swim? Swim can find nothing suggesting why the euphoria is gone. Swim's going to experiment with tramadol IV one day, and rectal sooner. Theoretically, it won't work, but it's worth a shot to Swim.

Swim has also tried TONS of potentiators with tramadol. You name it, he's tried it. Nothing.

Re: Tramadol losing it effects on me?

SWIM is just surprised that after only taking it 1-2 times a week that a tolerance would have already built up.

Re: Tramadol losing it effects on me?

It sure as hell is not tolerance for Swim. At least not what most mean when they say "tolerance", as it, traditional physical tolerance.

Swim's other opioid doses are about the same as the day he first used.

fiveleggedrat added 114 Minutes and 26 Seconds later...

New: Check out Swim's experience with Tramadol rectal, trying to get effects as nothing happens anymore when taking orally but negatives.

To make it short: Nothing happened. Absolutely nothing but mild cns sedation and slowed breathing. That horrible nausea is absent, though.

Swim's giving up on tramadol for the time being.
