MDMA +hydroxyzine/prednisone/cortisone

HELLO!! Swim was wondering if there were any potentially harmful side affects, or any at all, from taking MDMA while on hydroxyzine and prednisone. Swim also had a 125mg cortisone shot. he would just like to know if there would be any side affects what so ever if he took MDMA with these other chemicals in his system?? SWIM SAYS TY!!!!

WOW - what'd swim get those for? SWIM would be careful as corticosteroids cause mood swings and sometimes manic behavior. Coupled with MDMA effects / hangover, this could be highly unpredictable.

Re: MDMA +hydroxyzine/prednisone/cortisone

Here are some articles in the archive about steroids and MDMA, specifically glucocorticoids (subsection of corticosteroids) which includes cortisone and prednisone.

And I quote:
Quote:
Adrenalectomy (ADX) attenuated or blocked this decrease in TPH activity in the hippocampus but not in the frontal cortex. This protective effect of ADX on hippocampal serotonergic neurons disappeared with concurrent administration of corticosterone (CORT) and MDMA administration. The long-term MDMA-induced decreases in hippocampal serotonin (5-HT) and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) concentrations were similarly affected by CORT replacement. However, ADX did not alter the short-term decline in hippocampal TPH activity and 5-HT concentrations measured 3 h after a single dose of MDMA (10 mg/kg s.c.). This study suggests that CORT play a role in the development of neurotoxicity induced by MDMA in the hippocampal serotonergic system, but may be less important in other brain structures.
Quote:
...possibility that amphetamine and its analogues induce the formation or release of some endogenous substance(s) in the periphery rendering the
neuron vulnerable to the drug insult...

...Glucocorticoid hormones, which are secreted by adrenal glands, could be such released compounds, since it is well established that amphetamine analogues such as MDMA increase the blood concentration of these hormones (Nashet al., 1988). Interestingly, glucocorticoids have been implicated in the loss of hippocampal neurons observed during aging (Meaney et al., 1988), or produced by hypoxia-ischemia following vascular occlusion (Sapolsky and Pulsinelli, 1985), or following the microinfusion of neurotoxins such as kainic acid and 3-acetylpyridine (Sapolsky, 1985a,b; 1986). The depletion of glucocorticoids resulting from adrenalectomy (ADX) attenuates or prevents the neuronal loss induced by these treatments (ergo their existence is likely contributing to neurodegeneration)
etc. etc.

Now, corticosterone is not cortisone, but they are very similar. Noone could find nothing specifically about cortisone or prednisone in the literature, but he would suggest to wait until the cycle is over before using MDMA.

Re: MDMA +hydroxyzine/prednisone/cortisone

I know this thread is very old but thought I would contribute. My hamster was on prescribed prednisone, which she isn't taking anymore, and has received cortisone shots in her knees although that was some years ago. When my hamster first tried E she was taking prednisone and didn't notice any ill effects. My hamster has yet to try E without the prednisone though.

Your safest bet is to ask your doctor if they are prescribed medication. I'm fairly sure they have to uphold the whole patient/doctor confidentiality thing and you could just talk about in hypothetical terms.

Snapper is correct in stating that corticosteroids cause mood swings. While on them my hamster would have black moods for days for no reason, and then come out of it quite unexpectedly. They stopped after my hamster stopped taking prednisone.

Hope this information helps.
