Setting - Irritating people present for a first time trip?

SWIM had a dream in which he had wanted to try LSD for a couple of years but previously hadn't been able to get a hold of any, but now he could.

However he had a reservation which he was looking for advice about. He was planning on taking it with his two housemates, one of which has tried LSD a few times before, both he and the other housemate have had a few experiences with mushrooms but also want to treat the LSD trip with respect due to what they have read and been told. The problem is one of the housemates girlfriends also wants to be in on the trip, this is a problem because the girlfriend is often very loud and in peoples faces and generally wasn't considered to be the kind of person SWIM would like to trip with for his first time. As well as being very loud and at times irritating she also doesnt seem to know anything about the drug and talks about it as if its no big deal at all, this gave SWIM the impression that maybe she doesn't realise what she might be in for and could be overwhelmed, she has had bad experiences with other drugs fairly often due to not knowing her own limits and acting macho with drugs such as 'trying to keep up with others' and such instead of just taking things at her own pace.

In SWIM's dream he was wanting to know what other people would consider the best thing to do, he considered he could tell his friend about his reservations but this may cause awkwardness in the friendship and his friendship with the girlfriend, he could not partake in the experience and wait for another time though it feels like this is the time we have been waiting for and would feel a little 'robbed' to stay out of it now.
What would you recommend?

Also if SWIM goes ahead with his trip he also dreamt about whether it would be prudent to drop half and wait for those effects to kick in before dropping the other half as opposed to taking a whole tab in one. What would you recommend for SWIM's first time?

To swim, this sounds like it boils down to a simple question. Is being the 'nice' guy and avoiding potential hurt feelings more important than swiy entering into a potential 16 hour nightmare?

If swiy does not think it will be good for him to trip with this woman, then swiy should NOT trip with this woman. End of story. When entering into a situation where a person is completely uncertain and pessimistic because of the set and setting, it is just asking for it. Not to mention if this woman has had bad experiences before... if she has another one, on top of the undesirable traits that swiy has mentioned, it could be a recipe for disaster for all involved.

Worse comes to worst, maybe swiy could hold off a bit, save his hit for another time. Maybe it will cause some tensions... but as swim stated before, the alternative is far worse, ISO. Swiy has already waited this long, what's another week?

No question about it, if this is one of the person's first experiences, SWIM would advise that he try to minimize mental anxiety. If this is something that was so upsetting to your friend that he wanted to ask advice about it in a forum like this then I would say that is clearly an indication that, even unconsciously or subconsciously, this could be a big deal and could lead to some awkwardness during the experience. Your friend might accidentally say something mean to the girl without realizing it as the subconscious begins to integrate into conscious thought. The tongue gets very slippery in this state and it can lead to a night of the user walking on eggs trying not to say anything that will offend the others. This kind of reaction for a first time user would be truly devistating to their experience as all they'll be able to think about is whether they're offending anyone. 16 hours of intense neurotic paranoia is not the way to experience LSD. Avoid any situation which will make the person overly self-conscious or self-aware as LSD tends to do this to people anyway.

Plus the girl sounds like the a-typical trip spoiler in my book and your friend shouldn't feel bad about avoiding people like this on his first venture. He doesn't want anyone around who will cheapen it or make him feel silly for respecting it. It is definitely something that deserves much respect and much care.

SWIM is thankful for the replies, he says in his gut he was probably leaning towards that view but hearing it from other people before he said something has really reassured him.

Yep. Ditch the ditz. For anxiety and terror - try marriage - not LSD.

Regards taking 1/2 or whole, no one can answer this as no one knows the dosage of what SWIM is planning on taking.

SWIM talked to his friend today and his friend completely understood, they now have it planned so they can trip without the girlfriend and they are going to do it seperately together another time. The perfect outcome! SWIM also got his LSD today and is very much looking forward to next weekend!

What SWIM really meant with the 1/2 - whole thing was not what would be a good dosage, but given that SWIM doesn't have a reliable idea of how strong it is, would it be prudent to split the dose in two.
For example if SWIM was taking MDMA he could split the dose and take the 2nd half if he wasn't feeling much from the first which would 'top-up' the high so to speak, but with something like hash cakes it takes so long to come on that by splitting up the dose SWIM might not feel the full effects. SWIM just wondered what people would generally advise with LSD.

You pretty much win the award for random person having enough common sense to ASK about dosages.

Swim's word is this: "I do not even CARE what the drug you are doing is, you ALWAYS take HALF what others tell you, at least. You have no idea what this drug is going to be, much less the potential dosage. This is especially important for things marketed as LSD and Ecstasy, since they have quite a bit of history as ending up being cut/dirty/impure/another drug/etc."

Others might not agree, but that's fine.
