Prozac and psychedelics

Since his OCD continued to get worse, swim went to a doctor. He was put on 30mg prozac/day, and it's likely he'll get put on 40mg/day or more as the dosage is stepped up.

Anyway, he's read lots of trip reports on Erowid and it seems like prozac weakens the effect of psychedelics, so 2x or 3x the dosage is required. He smoked some cannabis though, and actually had a valid psychedelic experience. He's never heard of anyone getting as high as he did, at least in that way. He experienced intense CEVs and OEVs, and forgot that he was human, or on Earth, or that anything existed. He smoked with a friend, who had roughly the same amount as he did, but definitely wasn't as high. He smoked some of the same cannabis before he was put on prozac, too, and the effect was definitely not as intense.

Anyway, so for using say 2C-I, 2C-E or LSD while he's taking prozac, will he have to take 2x or 3x the dose to get any effect? Is there some way he can cancel out the tolerance created by the prozac?

Re: Prozac and psychedelics

Sounds like your weed might be laced... if not, you should consider yourself lucky for having that kind of experience from marijuana (and prozac) alone.

Re: Prozac and psychedelics

It is highly unlikely that SWIY's weed was laced. Weed can be a psychedelic and anyone can have a strong psychedelic reaction to it depending on many factors.

In terms of SSRIs and psychedelics, it is generally true that they weaken the effects of classic serotonin-based psychedelics, how so is different for everyone. Some claim that they can trip fairly normally, others say that no matter what the dosage they get no effects. It's impossible to say how SWIY will react so I would recommend starting off with a normally dosage and titrating upwards if not enough. Remember to space out trials at least a week but preferably more due to tolerance. Also be aware that SWIY may never find a dosage that gives them effects while on SSRIs, and consider whether or not it is even a good idea to be taking psychedelics while on a course of medication for OCD.
