Kavalactone mg content labeled, unusual?
Hello all. Someone told me they just picked up a liquid kava extract from an organic grocery store. The label states that there are 64mg kavalactones per 40 drop (about half the dropper) serving. SWIM has never actually seen the number labeled before! What is SWIY's experience on the subject? How many mg of Kavalactones is considered a low or high dose? SWIM has only seen percentage extracts up until now.

Re: Kavalactone mg content labeled, unusual?
yea swim honestly thinks tat most extracts ar total bs and thier kavalacetone content is VERRRY questionable at best. since they arent relly regulated they can say w/e they want. swim gets much more effects from buying untreated un-extracted root and making a tea.

Re: Kavalactone mg content labeled, unusual?
swim has bought kava tincture before and it was simply labelled 33% Kavalactones...swim tried 2 shots and says it was very good and pretty strong(slightly fowl tasting though).
Swimhas tried kava both in Fijiand Vanuatu and says that this tincture was ALOT stronger and better value, and easierto consume. |

Re: Kavalactone mg content labeled, unusual?
In a traditional setting, a cup or shell of kava usually contains around 250 mg of kavalactones.
Kava is like cannabis in that it contains a fairly wide variety of of actives. The relative amounts of each active can vary from plant to plant. Further complicating the picture is the fact that the kavalactones vary somewhat in solubility in any given solvent; going by the extracts SWiM has tried, I doubt that most extracts are really full-spectrum. Fortunately, like the cannabinoids, the kavalactones are quite forgiving. Just start with a reasonable dose and work up. If SWiSEN has the brand I think he does (I'm fairly certain of it in fact), then he has one of the better ones. SWiM has consumed up to half of one of those bottles in one sitting. A very pleasant kava-trance ensued. Also, remember that kava has a reverse tolerance effect, so you'll need less if you do it frequently. |

Re: Kavalactone mg content labeled, unusual?
A friend of Swim had about 10 caps of 30% kavalactones from a local herbal shop, unsure of what the dosages per cap were.
She throughly enjoyed them, and effects described matched Kava. There are products out there with stated kavalactone levels that work, but generally it seems products with stated levels tend to be lower than stated. |

Re: Kavalactone mg content labeled, unusual?
I'd echo others doubts about the accuracy of labeled k-lactone content in commercial extracts. I've heard of hypnotic effects being achieved at far lower than the 250 mg in traditional preps., but SWiM requires at least 800 mg k-lactones for more than threshold anxiolysis, at least using the supermarket natrol 60/200 mg capsules. SWiM periodically suffers from terrible anxiety and yesterday took 1800+ mg of lactones with milk over the course of the day. That said, SWiM is a bit of a kava junkie.

Re: Kavalactone mg content labeled, unusual?
I've gotten pharma kava (liquid extract) from whole foods and it has the kavalactones labeled on the tincture bottle. Ive had the best luck with pharma kava out of all the brands at whole foods.
