How to say no to those extra drinks

It seems that almost every time i drink with freinds I get to that
great stage where I feel really good about everything and having a
fantastic time and thats when I tend to think that it would be a good
idea to have another couple of drinks and before I know it I'm totally
fucked and don't know what I'm doing.

Every time I go out I say to myself that I'll just have a few and have
a good time but I never even consider that when I'm drinking. Anyone
have any idea's of things I can do to stop myself from going OTT?

In the past I have had the exact same problem. Sometimes it's hard to know exactly how much booze is going to put you into "the bad place". The problem is that while your tolerance goes up through frequency of drinking, the amount needed to make you out-of-control drunk actually becomes less as you drink more and more often. So what happens is, you feel happy drunk, and think that you can handle a few more, but you accidentally overwhelm yourself. People who drink a LOT (like, every day) are able to get black out drunk on a single drink.

A few things I've done in the past to keep myself from going overboard are:
-Remind yourself that it takes 20 minutes to feel the full effects of a drink. So just because the shot you just had hasn't hit you yet, does not mean you should toss back another right away. Wait for your body to catch up and process the alcohol already in your system.
-Eat a full meal before going out. having a full stomach generally prevents me from drinking too much too fast.
-Have a glass of water after every alcoholic beverage (this will slow down your intake AND help prevent a hangover)
-buy less booze. I used to buy a 24 every weekend out of habit, and pound the whole thing in a night. Now I usually bring only half that and am satisfied even without making an ass out of myself ...as often...

If all else fails, ask a close buddy to remind you to take it easy if he/she sees you're starting to get too pissed. Chances are, your friends want to prevent you from going OTT just as much as you do

Good luckEdited by: i like wimmins

I got the same problem. I tried the friend thing but when im out of control i get intimitating...i wont take "NO MORE BOOZE" from anyone for the most part. You just have to learn from bad experiences and if your wise learn from others. Food works the best for me..then getting drunk with others like you will help when you see what a jackass/stupidass you can be when youre really drunk. Learning that girls arent impressed by the amount you can drink helps too

i know exactly whatyou all are talking about. im a 16 years old and dont have a very high tolerance. whenever i drink i say "i wont get shit faced" but always end up getting smashed. 2 days ago i was in the hospital becuase i hit my head and had blood gushing everywhere. i have 4 staples in my head now. luckily i don't think i have a court date, but i just want to advise everyone out there todrink with caution, cause it can be pretty dangerous ifyour no careful.

It took time for me to aquire that skill.....i think the only way to
really control it (which is very hard to do under the influence) is to
get real sick a few times..few bad hangovers, few bodily injuries due
to alcohol..

My body, brain, and liver may have taken a few beatings, but nowadays I can stop fairly easily.

best way ive managed this...is to bring my own alchohol (leaving it in the car) as an example i bring a bottle of tequila and a shot glass in my car... and dose myself accordingly.....take a double shot...or triple shot...and go into the bar/club ...but while in the club drink only water or coke etc etc (which helps rehydrate you) then come back out and take another double or triple shot ... its much easier to manage if you are not drinking inside the bar or club...you keep track of just how much you are drinking when you have to keep walking back out to your car....plus it saves you money as well...and drinking the waters and cokes in the bar rehydrates you
