Re: Best genre of music on MDMA or similar drugs!

I was huge fan of LTJ and his mates (Blu Mar Ten, Bid Bud, Makoto, Future Engineers, PFL, Tayla). Very good D'nB.
I'v seen LTJ ten years ago in Utrecht (Netherlands). No need to say it was smoky.

I'm liking this sort of piano hardcore, though the beats could a bit better, you can tell its pretty oldschool Luna-C Piano progression

I can feel a cover of that coming on when my synths are sorted out.

Piano rave - Piano Breaks - Breakbeat Hardcore

whatever you wanna call it I found a mix for it. Not quite as melodic and happy as the sets I've heard it's a great listen. I guess nothing quite compares to it live .

Re: Best genre of music on MDMA or similar drugs

Little fishy is on MDMA right now, he tells me and is loving the tune linked to below. The lyrics are:

# i cannot cry, i cannot lie any more, chasing shadows in the night, haunted by the rays of light, i cannot bear, gasping for air every time, repeating that i just don't care, repeating that there's nothing there, haunted.... i want to die #

He can't understand how those lyrics are so sad yet the song is very very uplifting - awesome in fact. This song he wants at his funeral.

Re: Best genre of music on MDMA or similar drugs

Ahhh any kind of trance/techno mixture that can put very fast beats and very calm, beautiful trance sessions into a single melody of the utmost positive vibes coursing through your body.

Dj Satomi - Nuclear Sun is really good, also check out Happy Hardcore - Ocean of Memories (among others).

But all in all everything and its mama is enhanced so really whatever music one likes will work as long as it has some energy and preferably positive vibes.

My friend does not like trance when on MDMA or similar drugs, reason being there is lack of a hard beat to stomp to.

In SWIM's experience...

Drum & Bass / Hardcore = chavs

Hard House / Psytrance / Dubstep / Breaks = slightly more sophisticated chavs as more underground and less commercial.

Anyone in London into the above music should consider going to Tranzmission 2009 at Alexandra Palace on the easter bank holiday weekend.. Hardcore/Drum + Bass/Hard House, 10,000+ people. Should be a good night.

That's some strong stereotyping. I love happy hardcore but am far from being a chav. I only really love the underground stuff, the tunes you can tell were produced for the love of the music, not that commercial shit produced for nothing more than quick money. Happy hardcore matches the way I want to live my life - fast, hard and extremely euphoric.

Not trying to insult anyone, since the genre demographics are being discussed just thought I'd weigh in with my experience. I go to those kind of raves all the time and have not had any trouble and I love hardcore (well the stuff made in 2005) and am far from a chav.

It just seems like since that period Hardcore has become very mainstream and if you listen to the albums being made they go way down hill. In my view Bonkers 13 / Hardcore Til I Die 2 and Hardcore Heaven 1 are the last hardcore cds worth buying, they truly are quality but after them it became such commercial thoughtless bollocks. Of course there are the occasional amazing tunes that recapture the magic but on the whole it's a lot worse. If you check out dontstayin you will get an idea of some of the kind of people that listen to this 'newer' harcore and frequent raves that I'm referring to.

As for Hard House thats my passion but it doesn't stop me admitting that the raves can be a little chavy, although nowhere near as chavvy as hardcore raves these days and this is probably because Hard House is much more of an acquired taste and much of it lacks the requisite 'cheese' element that would make it mainstream. Anyway as long as everyone's there to have fun and not cause trouble then it's totally fine afaic.

Concerning dnb and as a side note I went to Fabric (drum & bass superclub in London) last night and within minutes of the doors opening there had been a fight, blood splatters on the floor and a police van and an ambulances on the scene. My friend got pickpocked and smacked in the face when he tried to stop the guy doing it. Still had a good night but it's those kinda chavs that go to raves to do that kinda shit that I have a problem with.

Conkermon added 17 Minutes and 13 Seconds later...

Yeah hearing about raves in the US they often sound so amazing. Especially the outdoor ones in beautiful fields surrounded by forests and lakes and mountains etc. SWIM wishes such settings existed in the UK to get messy and listen to amazing music. Still being more mainstream has its benefits; SWIM remembers hearing about a rave in Utah which got shut down by the national guard, thats no fun.. Rarely are such measures taken in the UK. Furthermore there is almost an unspoken acceptance of the fact that people go to raves here to take drugs, so long as people stay safe and no-one gets hurt the police tend to stay away. Then there is the fact that legal raves have health and safety measures with paramedics often on hand and the mandatory availability of tap water. I guess the main disadvantage is the impact on the atmosphere, although again this depends on the kind of music on offer..
