My cat tells me dubstep is an easy winner in his opinion , the cat said you can feel every beat and the large amount of drops and samples makes it the best.

What would their choice be instead, as Cat agrees with you to some extent.

Mywheels prefer the sounds of jungle and drum and bass when on mdma/ecstacy, but this is his electronic genre's of preference generally. Breakcore/breaks/psytrance/hip-hop and grindcore/hardcore/metal also do the treat, all about inspiring the rush eh.

Definately minimal techno, progressive house or some really PHAAT breaks! That repetetive electronic beat just makes SWIM want to smile and dance!

Its never too late, just get an old keyboard and learn some chords online and what chord progressions sound good, and just play chords with you left hand while jamming with your right. Its that easy.

Nice little mix Synesthesiac, another reason to love you!!

Have you ever heard Fergus Mayhem - Take Control (CLSM Remix)? I'm not a fan of the song in general, but one of the best hardcore piano rifts I've ever heard is in that tune!!!

Re: Best genre of music on MDMA or similar drugs!

I've searched forever to find a recorded set but no luck. But there is a genre of EDM which could be credited as being the foundation of Happy Hardcore called Piano Rave. Which is just bouncy jazzy piano chords being jammed away with breakbeats and other additions. It's the greatest thing to dance to and I've only heard one DJ set of the stuff before and I might hear it again in two days depending if these DJs do it again. If I find an example or better yet, a mix, I'll definitely crosslink it from the rave forums I frequent.

You can find a bunch of old-skool stuff with the following links.

http://www.backtotheoldskool.co.uk/r...tory_index.htm
http://www.backtotheoldskool.co.uk/in_the_mix.htm

I remember another site or two having some good stuff as well, but can't recall which ones exactly. You can find some solid mixes of early hardcore material at sites like djmixes.net and livesets.com . "Lennart from Amsterdam" posted a good number of mixes on the first site, and they comprise a fairly thorough example of the early scene.

Thanks, someone on the rave forum posted the exact same site (backtotheoldschool) when I asked about piano rave-type sets when I referenced a specific party from a year ago. I'm slowly downloading sets and going through them trying to find the sound I'm looking for. I'll definitely give those a listen.

what you're talking about unless I'm very much mistaken is what we used to just call "hardcore" in the early nineties, or "oldskool hardcore" nowadays.

I recommend checking out the archives at www.oldskoolravers.co.uk where there is a load of djs who play the sort of tunes that will knock your socks off mate

i think trance for SWIF, he loves the epic progressions that build and build until a massive breakdowns which just sends those rushes through SWIF's body.

Electro, DNB, breaks and techno are alright as well - basically any electronic music.

I've just remembered the type of piano hardcore tune I used to listen to, a tune I used to listen to years ago called discoland (by flip and fill? maybe hixxy remix) pretty much sums it up perfectly. Really up tempo and jumpy. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TGpBrtrRVy8 And nice chords. Definately hits the cheese factor too with the vocals. real Happy music!

I listened to both of those tracks, really like em especially the first one. Listened to a few other PFM tracks after that one as well and they're all good! Are there any other good artists like that, who make that kinda chilled out drum n bass/jungle?

Me too, I generally like the chilled out light DnB rather than the well hectic heavy stuff. A real oldschool chilled DnB tune I used to listen to years ago byAK1200 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TDgCCJxzbTQ Got a happy sort of chilled out reggae feeling to it. ed rush had some bangin really chilled DnB tunes with a reggae quality to them, but I dont know their names so cant find them at the mo.

I like this DnB tune by Smote & Stunna which I thinks pretty chilled out mellow DnB, specially when the bass drops at 1:20 or so: Smote & Stunna ft. Submorphics - First Light I just like the guitar part. Turn ur sub up and feel the bass. Yea.
