Tecnal C 1/4 (Butalbital Combination) and aspirin breakdown
Is it still "safe" to take Tecnal C 1/4 pills when they have a slight vinegar-like odor? I know this is supposed to mean that the aspirin is breaking down.
How dangerous is this? Afoaf checked for this smell a few days ago, but didn't notice anything unordinary. Today there was a smell to them. Afoaf just dropped two of them; there aren't that many left. How dangerous is it to keep taking them? There is probably only about another days worth or so. Can they still be imbibed? or should afoaf call poson control? lol ![]() d0wn3r added 237 Minutes and 52 Seconds later... Actually, since we're on the subject of Tecnal (and since there is no other thread which seems to deal with it specifically) Duff has another question unrelated to Aspirin breakdown. Obviously one builds up a tolerance to this drug (which is probably why physicians discourage constant use of it); the reccommended dosage is "1 or 2 capsules at once, followed by another capsule every 3 to 4 hours." Duff has been taking this for a few days now, and would like to know if it makes sense to up the dosage slightly (2 capsules at once, followed by 2 more capsules every 3 to 4 hours)? This may seem like nothing to other Swims out there, but Duff would rather play it safe than sorry. Last edited by d0wn3r; 15-09-2008 at 08:37. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Re: Tecnal C 1/4 (Butalbital Combination) and aspirin breakdown
With aspirin, if you smell a pronounced odor of vinegar (acetic acid) - you are correct in assuming it has broken down with age. It won't kill you to take them, but SWIM should know they are old and not likely to work as well as before. The barbituate component is likely as good as ever - and highly addictive. Barbituate withdrawl is much worse than that from benzodiazepines. If SWIM has only a few, there shouldn't be a problem. But be aware that this drug is dangerous. Especially mixed with other depressants (alcohol). Operating machinery is right out.

Quote:
Duff only has a few left, yes. They have been taking them for about a week now, and there are only maybe two doses left (of 2 pills each). There won't be any left for tomorrow, should Duff be worried about possible withdrawal symptoms from the Butalbital? It is Duff's understanding that these pills aren't really that strong (as far as pills go, they're probably quite tame). Duff is going to see the doctor on Wednesday, so that means there will only be one (theoretical) 24-hour period without any pills. Should Duff tell his doctor that they have been taking Tecnal recreationally (read as: "to cope with a life that has become increasingly meaningless and painful")? Duff is primarily concerned with overdose and withdrawal at this point. They have been playing it quite safe though (as far as they know); Duff never took anything like four at once or anything, hahaha (not that they haven't considered it .But thank you again, Duff is very interested in this drug and it is rare enough to find information about it online. |

Re: Tecnal C 1/4 (Butalbital Combination) and aspirin breakdown
Butalbital is the most commonly prescribed barbituate out there at present. Usually found in such medications as Fiornal (Google, UTFSE) for prophylaxis of migraine and other pain. It's relatively weak. A week won't be enough to cause a notable physical withdrawl to the rats. Psychological withdrawl is another matter. They better tough-up and ride that tiger if it arrives - getting strung-out and robbing drugstores for "Downer's, Dude" is not only extremely illegal, it's also highly embarrassing.
They've had their fun. Blast-From-The-Past. Now chill. |

Re: Tecnal C 1/4 (Butalbital Combination) and aspirin breakdown
Thanks for the input.
As far as I know, Duff has no plans to rob any pharmacies for downers, lol. Good to know that physical dependence shouldn't be a problem at this point, although its possible that a psychological dependence is on its way to forming. Unfortunately, although Duff uses the stuff "recreationally," it is actually used to self-medicate; its not just for fun or anything (even though I hear it feels good ).Basically, Duff has lost the ability to cope with a life where pain has become commonplace (both emotional and physical). Fortunately, the Tecnal was available at just the right moment, and Duff has been using it until they can get to their doctor for something that can be taken for a prolonged period of time (Duff knows that this particular drug is not the best to take for prolonged periods, but they suspect that this is merely on account of the "habit-forming" nature of the substance). Duff cannot take stimulants (due to cardiac Arrhythmia), hallucinogens (anymore), cannabis (losing its effect of killing pain, and increasing its effect of anxiety), so that is why they have opted for the downers. Duff actually quite likes the Butalbitol, its very relaxing. They can easily see how a dependence could form. Perhaps I'm off topic, excuse me. Time to wake up Duff to take their sleeping pill haha
