question about methadone tablets

swim has run out of swims medication early... swim takes morphine sul. swim was was wondering if there was anyway that 10mg methadone tablets will help with the withdrawels..... help please... swims going to be miserable here pretty soon

Yes they will help with w/d, but be careful and safe with the methadone. It takes longer to kick in than other drugs. It also can be in the body from 12-72+ hours. Don't OD.

does swiy think that swim will have to take more than 1 at a time? swim takes anywhere between 2 and 3 hundred mg a day of morphine

I'd say you'd need two or three.Try two and see how it's going after 60-90 minutes.

swim agrees. swim would also like to add that if swiy is not getting morphine for legit pain and wants to stop methadone can be a great way to detox if only used for a few days. it is much better to be hooked on morphine than methadone though. if swiy is in pain then it's all good. just trying to give some advice. anyways swim thinks someone was saying 100mg methadone is given for every 1 gram of diacetylmorphine (heroin) so definately start out with two but definately wait about 2 hours to re assess. it should not take more than 40mg of methadone. good luck

2-3 a day should do you for two days straight maybe, since 16 hours is the half life of done youve got a long time before you should start havinng w/d symptoms. Be carefull though cause like they said it takes a while to feel em. I had a friend make that mistake and ended up eating ten of em cause he thought they were week, he died clinically but they were able to revive him at the hospitak

Ok, first off everyone, did the OP even MENTION what dose he was taking? Why are you all rushing to tell him "take 2 or 3", That could be more than he needs, and which might just cause him to use them faster than needed.

OP should take as much as gets rid of W/D symptoms, and that dose should be found by SLOW and DELIBERATE dosing, starting with the lowest possible dosage.

Half life can vary from the user. Swim gets 72 hours on single dose. Most usually get 12 hours. Go figure.

Edit: Obviously, silly poster failed to notice that the OP mentions dose. Silly FLR.

Boo, sitting on here with severe lack of sleep.

Correction, I obviously failed to note OP's dosage. Dumb me. Well, I still stand behind not rushing to tell people "equivalent" doses, as I have seen HUGE variances based on experience and body chemistry. Anytime someone says "How much morphine equals XXX oxycodone" or similar, I cringe.

Just important to work up slowly and find what works well for oneself.

I even say more, will not reach a pick for a few hours. Taken early in the morning say 7 or 8 am, ONE may start nod at around 2 or 3 pm.

Most clinics start patients safely at around 35 mgs.



NO sorry, you are right you are talking about 2 which is 20 to 30 that should be safe. When going up more to 40 or 50 milograms start to see the pick time that it takes before one might start to worry. I truly do not know the compartiable conversion from Methadone to morphine Sol

It's difficult for Swim to compare methadone and morphine. They produce very different effects IMO. That's why Swim thinks trying to find "equivalent" doses is usually a bad idea.

For Swim, methadone was very hard to reach a nod on. It provided heavy sedation, but was lacking in mental effects. The lack of "feel good" causes one to dose higher than they would normally for opioids that produce greater amounts of euphoria/contentment with less sedation, like hydrocodone, for example. Not nearly as physically sedating as a morphone.

Swim also knows people who have OD'ed trying to jump right from one drug at high dose to another drug with a high dose with no previous experience.

Methadone also has more "danger" with it than other opioids, due to the degree of sedation, amount of time it takes to become active in the body, and very long half life. For Swim, methadone when admin'ed orally in a liquid solution takes exactly 30 minutes to reach a peak. Others can take 1-2 hours and expect it to be weak when really the drug has not yet become active. Everyone is different.

Thanks to everyone who offered their advice.... swim is a she not a he though... but that doesnt matter heh..... swim tried slowly increasing the tablet number of the methadone every few hours or so and didnt have very good luck... swim ended up putting on a few fentanyl patches the next day and continued that until swim was able to refill meds


swim feels much better now

You are a luck gal that can have those kinds of choices. I figured you would do okay, as long as you did nt got despaired and didn't eat a tablet an hour. Everything in moderation inculding moderation

Yes, too many people say "Oh, I can take 100mg methadone and be fine, Im taking 100mg codeine usually." Obviously, those people don't live long.

Jeeze, and Swiy gots fent. patches too? Those will def help more than the methadone, at least in Swim's opinion.

oh yeah the fentanyl really helped swim. swim put 2 75 mcg patches on every three days untill swim was able to get to the pain doctor.... those patches were lifesavers!

Point in case on the dosage thing: Non drug using person Swim knows was prescribed 2mg hydromorphone for pain. She is completely opiate naive, as well. She stated "Oh, its a low dose pain pill, I can take more". Swim then explained potency by weight.

She previously had 30mg codeine pills and assumed 2mg hydromorphone were weaker.
