veterinarian drugs that are abused?

Can any swim list some veterinarian drugs that in dreams are abused by some swims or swims that swims know.

Besides the obvious tiletamine and ketamine.

Spare Chaynge added 105 Minutes and 55 Seconds later...

Re: veterinarian drugs that are abused?

in the US, any websites that offer meds like Soma (cardiprosodol) without actually requiring a doctor consultation (i.e. you fill out the webform and submit)...these sites are actually operating under a little-known law that allows them to prescribe and dispense veterinary meds to pet owners...even though there's absolutely nothing on the website that indicate this information...I came across this information first by reading some of the text files available on this site (Soma), then verified the info when someone I know ordered soma from such a website...credit card was billed to something like pets.com. -DICK

Re: veterinarian drugs that are abused?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clenbuterol

Clenbuterol is similar to albuterol, an inhaled anti-asthma drug for humans. Although the wikipedia article mentions prescribed human use, I've only heard of (per-label) vetinary use.

Clenbuterol is "abused" as a weight-loss drug. Since anti-asthma drugs are generally very targeted stimulants (the lungs see them as stimulants, but not nec. the brain), it wouldn't be too surprising that this drug would be effective in this regard.

Never heard of it being used for recreational effect, though.

ugh! yeah, there's a reason why no one has ever called clenbuterol "recreational"! if getting hot, sweaty, somewhat anxious, and feeling your heart beat for 14 hours is fun, this stuff is for you! -DICK

Re: veterinarian drugs that are abused?

Ketamine is used by vets (on animals...), and used recreationally by humans.

Re: veterinarian drugs that are abused?

swim has been told by his vet friend that tiletamine is becoming the preferred choice due to theft of ketamine.

Re: veterinarian drugs that are abused?

Heh, Swim was just thinking about this today. He runs an Animal Rescue and when taking them to get spayed or neutered (which the RESPONSIBLE pet owner will do), the doc gives Swim little syringes of an oral buprenorphine solution. Doubt a 5lb cat's dose would be anything close to a human dose, though.

That explains how so many sites sell tramadol and fioricet.

[OFF TOPIC]

It's obscenely cruel not to neuter a cat or dog if it is going to be kept as a pet, on par with tail docking and surgical debarking, for a myriad of reasons - un-neutered animals (both female and male) will generally be more aggressive, more territorial, more dominant, less open to fuss (generally less "pet like"), as well as incredibly sexually frustrated come mating season which in turn will lead to extreme stress and unhappiness.

Unless you intend to breed from it. My cocker spaniel is not yet spayed, partly because she's so adorable that we thought we might want more, and also because she's only just had her first season, and you are supposed to let them have one (I think).

I've heard of pets getting doses of benzodiazepines as well.

Re: veterinarian drugs that are abused?

Yes they use a drug called somulose to kill small animals.. barbiturate, secobarbital .. dont know if it can be abused though as it is combined with cinchocaine.

Re: veterinarian drugs that are abused?

Yeah pets get alot of low dose prescriptions of "human" medication.. swim's old dog (rip) was on tramadol and prednisone towards the end of her life. His cats are both taking atenelol for some reason...

Re: veterinarian drugs that are abused?

Buprenorphine seems to be very popular at my new vet's. They gave us a bunch in a liquid suspension somewhat recently when our cat had surgery for cancer, and she loved that stuff, I'll tell you what. Supposedly you're meant to administer it buccally, but you try telling a cat "hey hold this in your cheek for two minutes." So it seems that it is fairly active orally in cats.

Re: veterinarian drugs that are abused?

----------
On Neutering

I have a colony of feral cats that live in the abandoned house next door. They spit out kittens so fast, one female can produce 175 youngungs in a year. I can only afford to have them vaccinated, neutered, etc etc and adopted out so fast and just can't keep up. Neutering prevents unnecessary animal deaths. Also, de-clawing is terribly cruel, a better and more accurate name is digital amputation, they cut off down to the first knuckle! And people wonder why they start biting...
-------------

A while a go, grandma's aging cat needed to be put down, terribly sick and old. It was either pento- or pheno- barbital that was used, under the brand name "Fatal Plus"...
