Fleeing and Eluding LE (aka running away)
Swim is here because he has a friend who has just been arrested for fleeing cops. Age 17, no previous record. State of Florida. White male, if anyone cares. More or less, the kid was on a dirtbike and pulled up somewhere cops were arresting someone else, something domestic violence related. It was the the kid and his friend on the bike, actually. The kid Swim mentions was not driving, the friend was.
So they peeled out after the cops asked them to come over. They followed with loudspeakers in their cars demanding them to pull over for questioning or face arrest.
They came to the kids house earlier, and told the kid's family to call the police when they can to talk to someone. The cops left a specific number.
They just came back to the kids house (about 4 hours later) and arrested him. They had a description of him and had an idea where he was.
They said he is being charged with a misdemeanor, fleeing and eluding law enforcement.
What types of things usually happen to underage kids arrested for fleeing from cops? Do they get charged and keep a misdemeanor, or do they drop it? He is said to be going to jail tonight. Swim just wants to comfort the kid's family, he is not a bad kid. Swim assumes his will get a slap on the wrist, that this is just a "doing it because we can" type thing to scare the kid. What do Swiy all think?
Some personal experiences would be lovely.
The kid and his friend ran because they were afraid. Swim personally said to not talk to the cops when they came.
