Patterns and symbols seen on psychedelics
Whats all your opinion on the nearly identical Mayan/Egyptian patterns that we all see sometimes when on psychedelics. Swim doesn't know anyone that hasn't seen Egyptian hieroglyphics and Mayan style art while on mushrooms. Swim is real curious about all this. Heres swims possible explanations
1.) Its really the language of the subconscious mind and if we learn to interpret it we will find out what our subconscious mind is trying to tell us 2.) Its the kinda art our ancient Egyptian/Mayan ancestors liked and its imprinted into our DNA and psychedelics allow us to access the part of our mind that can recall hereditary memories 3.) We've all seen Egyptian/Mayan art and it looks cool so its made an impression on our minds and our minds retain it Swim likes to think number 1 is the case and that the ancient Egyptians/Mayans took psychedelics too and thats what inspired them to make this kinda artwork. The best example swim can find is the Mayan calender ![]() this is exactly like the kinda stuff swim sees. Endless tiny symbols and designs intricately linked to form a complex but perfect patten. Swim just had a bit of synchronicity an ad just came on the TV and showed pictures of Aztec pyramids, the Mayan calender and the sphinx. Swim can remember alot of these Mayan/Egyptian patterns and hieroglyphics but he can also remember visions of Egyptian pharoes coming out of the sky and making some sort of hand gestures to swim which swim woulda interpreted as "Calm down" or "take it down a notch" or "suppress" because they looked as if they were trying to press something downwards but real smoothly not violently. Swim didn't realize for a long time that he wasn't alone with these visions. Loads of his friends have similar trips. If swim had photographic memory and could paint his visions they would look identical to Mayan art and some of the symbols he's seen would look just like Egyptian hieroglyphics of birds and animals and other things. Swims theory is that these patterns and symbols are our subconscious minds form of communication. Last edited by HorseBucket; 08-09-2008 at 20:34. |

Re: Reading Genetic Imprints on Psychedelics
I think it's our subconscious visual interpretation of what many people would call the "fabric of life". There are many theories behind why we see these fractals, everything from mystical powers to long-forgotten pre-linguistic interpretational abilities. I don't imagine that these fractals tell us anything as such only they allow us to understand the near-infinite complexity of our own working minds. In the future, there may be ways of understanding this phenomenon in order to tap into under-used faculties of our brains and even already some people would claim that they can potentiate these although there is no defiantly objective way for anyone to manage this. The psychedelic experience is often compared to the sensation of synaesthesia and even borderline autism or other mental conditions on the autistic spectrum, conditions that can be either advantageous or disadvantageous depending on which cognitive abilities are inter-connected or untypical of the average human brain.
In regards to Mayan and Egyptian art directly however, I have never seen a very strong link. The Mayan art seems almost intrinsically linked with the use of psychedelics whereas the Egyptian symbolism appears to be something else again, probably connected closer to writing and direct communication than patterns and observations. |

Re: Patterns and symbols seen on psychedelics
Great thread!
A friend of mine has recently been experimenting with nn-DMT, mainly low pre-breakthrough doses. The visuals he has experienced have all been remarkably similar and he knew he'd seen the patterns somewhere. So he started searching google image search to try and work out what he was seeing, and ended up with Mayan Glphs, mandalas and other Mayan architecture! The similarity between the two startled him. Perhaps there could be another possibility: ...4.) These ancient civilisations attained the same states of minds, either by ingesting plants or other methods, and used the imagery they saw in their visions to design their surroundings. ? |

Re: Patterns and symbols seen on psychedelics
"The geometry of nature" and CEV's or OEV's on psychedelics are similar for no accidental reason.

Re: Patterns and symbols seen on psychedelics
Buddhist mandalas are somewhat similar too, as are some Islamic geometric patterns. And some Hindu designs- even ones from the Western occult tradition. Please don't forget wallpaper and carpets!
