Prescribed drugs
Hi!
![]() Swim is schizophrenic/depressive and also thinks he have ADD but in his country(lithuania) theres no drugs to treat it. Swim is taking lorazepam and seroquel. Swim is going after few hours to psychiatrist, and wants to get prescribed some stimulating drug. What it could be?

Re: Prescribed drugs
So you definitely want a stimulant? It would help the depression and ADD but may not be too good for the schizophrenia. I was on a non stimulant ADD medication called Strattera and although its a shitty drug it supposedly alleviates symptoms of schizophrenia. It might be worth a try. It won't do your depression any good though.
If you want a stimulant but they don't prescribe them for ADD in your country try playing the chronic daytime drowsiness card. They prescribe Ritalin to some people with chronic daytime drowsiness. |

Re: Prescribed drugs
If Swiy is schizophrenic AND depressive, Swim personally recommends not seeking out amphetamines or any stimulating drugs. Swim believes it would worsen existing conditions and provide more chance for addiction.
But then again, this is Swim's opinion. |

Re: Prescribed drugs
I would definitely advise making absolutely certain the schizophrenia is stabilized, as it can manifest a variety of 'cognitive difficulties', including an attention deficit.
Since stimulants can worsen schizophrenia, clinicians ought to exercise extreme caution in prescribing them to schizophrenic patients. HB, do you know of any studies that support this claim? The only ones I've seen suggest that Strattera has no appreciable effect on cognitive deficits resulting from schizophreniform disorders. The results from using stimulant medications (dextroamphetamine, methylphenidate) to this end are mixed but might be worth trying as long as you and your clinician start slowly and exercise caution. The only study I've seen is small, and I'm not sure what the availability is in your area, but modafinil has shown usefulness in the treatment of ADD-like symptoms associated with schizophrenia. It might be worth mentioning to your doctor. It would stand to reason that adrafinil would be effective as well. If the doctor can't/won't prescribe modafinil, you can find it online fairly cheap. Just do a google search. Hope this helps. I'm interested in what happens, keep us posted. |

Re: Prescribed drugs
Swim is feeling everyday like crap... all he can think is how to feel better. In swims country theres no modafinil, adrafinil, strattera
There is sudafed(pseudoephedrine) maybe he could help swim? And for swim online modafinil, strattera its way too expensive ... btw is it possible to buy prescription drugs online without prescription? If yes swim is thinking to buy adderal/ritalin online. But maybe its cheaper to buy base amphetamine from swim dealer for 8$ per gram. And what should be the daily dose of amph?amorphus added 8 Minutes and 6 Seconds later... Quote:
amorphus added 12 Minutes and 51 Seconds later... Oh i saw prices of adderal ritalin in online pharmacies Its way too expensive...

Re: Prescribed drugs
Felix I don't think theres been any research done on that I just read it on wikipedia but I think its more of a speculation on the doctors part. The reason I mentioned it was from personal experience. The closest I have to schizophrenia is some slight visual hallucinations when I'm lying in bed at night or in a dark room and sometimes my mind wanders a bit and I'll hear my own internal voice saying things without me putting any effort into thinking about them.
The Strattera seemed to stop both those things happening. I'd never see any of those little flashes of light in the corner of my eye or those bluish static like visuals that would replace the black in a dark room while I was on Strattera. My mind would only go where I consciously directed it too even when I was on the verge of sleep when the mind usually tends to wander. That all indicates to me that Strattera would lessen the chances of psychotic episodes and schizophrenia because in my opinion thats what schizophrenia is. The mind running wild. HorseBucket added 7 Minutes and 13 Seconds later... Amorphous swim thinks buying amphetamines from swiys dealer is not a bad idea if swiy has no other choice. As for dosage it will always be unpredictable because the amount of amphetamine in each pill will vary from batch to batch. Swim would recommend taking a half pill, waiting for the effects to come on then increasing the dosage if necessary. Swim never wanted to hear it either and would always ignore people telling him this but he's learned over the years its true. Nutrition has a huge impact on how you think and feel. Poor nutrition causes dopamine deficiencies. Eating healthy will help replenish dopamine supplies. In swims opinion alot of people who seek out stimulants like amphetamines because they feel like crap day to day and are looking for a solution are people with a dopamine imbalance. Look into tyrosine supplements. BTW Seroquel inhibits the flow of dopamine. Amphetamines increase the flow of dopamine. Maybe thats the problem. Might be the lack of dopamine thats making you tired and feel bad. Swim doesn't know much about schizophrenia and doesn't know any alternative treatments so he can't recommend any alternatives to Seroquel. Last edited by HorseBucket; 08-09-2008 at 14:45. Re: Prescribed drugs
SWiHB: Had you taken psychedelics before you noticed these visual disturbances? Also, these events of 'the mind mind wandering' sound more like ADD symptoms, which atomoxetine is designed to treat. (its probably too late to be worth mentioning, but try to stick with the generic/chemical name when you refer to pharmaceuticals.)
The wiki mention of this use is, unfortunately, not sourced. I was going by the following study: Quote:
If your doctor is willing to see your mental health issue as ADD, there is some possibility that you will be able to get either generic dextroamphetamine (similar to Adderall) or generic methylphenidate (the active ingredient in Ritalin). Mention these to him and ask if they are available in your area. As for buying drugs online, Sun's Modalert (modafinil) can be had for less than a dollar a day (does this count as price discussion?). Look into it. If you're stabilized on the quetiapene (Seroquel) I would see no reason to change it. Buying amps. from your dealer should be an absolute last resort, and should only be pursued as a treatment option if you have some idea of how pure the amphetamine you can buy actually is. If you do try this, start with a low dosage and work up. Stop immediately if you have any increase in schizophrenic symptoms. |

Re: Prescribed drugs
Yeah felix the visuals started when swim started smoking weed when he was younger and he's had them ever since. Obviously the weed intensifies them a thousand fold. They are not the same kind of visuals swim gets on strong psychedelics like psilocybin. They're more blatantly obvious and look more like glitches on a TV screen.
Swim has gone into mindsets similar to schizophrenia when he was sleep deprived after a few days up on speed so he has a bit of an idea what it is. Its funny that the general concensus is that its excessive levels of dopamine in the brain that causes this type of psychosis but why is it only when your highly sleep deprived and coming down that the hallucinations kick in? |

Re: Prescribed drugs
I wanted to write a story about swims schizophrenia.ok. Swim was having too those floating blue energys or something when closed my eyes/in the dark.He was able to activate his third eye when he closed his eyes and see a smalling circle or something. Swim was feeling like a god or an angel. Swims mind was very fast, creative and he was having deep thoughs. Swim was feeling euphoria daily. He was feeling like that for a year and after a year he started to feel alot of paranoia, always hearing people talking and saying bad things about him, feeling empty and thinking people see trough his clothing
now swim is feeling better after a year of treatment with solian>haloperidol>citalopram>risperidonum>fluoxet inum>quetuapinum(seroquel) and lorazepam from the beginning. Now his doctor switched to olanzapine. amorphus added 2 Minutes and 57 Seconds later... Swim is recreationally taking amphetamine like one time in 2 months. Last time he taked it he was able to think much more faster and deeper. btw sorry for my english ![]() amorphus added 1 Minutes and 23 Seconds later... When he take a breathe of mj he feel alot more paranoia and confusion. Last edited by amorphus; 09-09-2008 at 16:47. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Re: Prescribed drugs
amorphous swim doesn't think you need antipsychotics. Swim had alot of paranoid symptoms after years of smoking weed and amphetamines seemed to amplify it. Swim hasn't taken drugs (regularly) for a year now and ALL symptoms of paranoia are gone now. No other drugs made swim paranoid and delusional not even mushrooms, LSD or PCP in fact these drugs did the opposite and strengthened swims grasp on reality.
In swims opinion marijuana and amphetamines are the most dangerous drugs for inducing long lasting psychosis. Cannabis only did this to swim after 6+ years of abusing it though. Swims heard kids say they see all sorts of visuals when they close their eyes then swim remembered he used to see all sorts of stuff when he'd close his eyes so swim thinks having those mild visuals is how we're born. Are paranoia, mild visuals, and hearing voices the only symptoms you had? |

Re: Prescribed drugs
Quote:
Swim thinks he knows how this works. Schizophrenic people do not believe things simply because everyone else believes them and they question everything and although this is a good way to be its also real dangerous because since they're on their own in their beliefs they can slip into believing something crazy like the CIA are telepathically controlling their mind and they will truly believe this and nothing anyone says can change their belief and they have no way of proving that its not true so they get stuck with this belief. Eventually they'll start hearing voices of CIA agents and think CIA are watching them and sitting in cars waiting for them etc. Swim thinks the trick is to never believe anything without solid evidence. If your hearing voices don't automatically accept that they're coming from an external source. Theres no evidence to back up that belief but we know that its easy for people to hallucinate and these kinda hallucinations can be self induced so theres a bit of evidence indicating that its all in your head. Theres my 2 cents on schizophrenia. |

Re: Prescribed drugs
SWIM's marmoset has noticed in recent year or so that she hears voices when she's extremely tired... Like after she's stayed up all night studying for an exam, and then forced to stay awake all next day in class... without even using any stimulants. She will be sitting at the computer and then start to nod off... just at that instant she's nodding, she'll hear some random voice say something short... almost like she's started to dream immediately upon the second she nodded out. But then she snaps back to alertness.
However, my marmoset has noticed that this is does seem more prominent after the use of prescribed dosages of ADD meds. Very true about nutrition playing a major factor in how you feel as well. ADD meds can be useful, but at the same time they can cause more harm than good if a person isn't careful. For instance, initially they make you more focused, but at the same time they destroy your appetite... so you don't eat as much. SWIM does not each much as it is, so any kind of appetite suppressing effect can easily make her go without eating and not even realize it. Then SWIM wonders why she feels like such shit and no drug will make her feel better. She wonders why she can take amphetamines and still feel run down (and she doesn't abuse them). Eventually, she realized that amphetamines used responsibily, taken orally at the, or even less than the prescribed dosages were worthless to her if she didn't get proper sleep and food. Actually she has drastically cut down her stimulant intake. Now she is taking maybe 1/4 of her prescribed dose if she takes it. Even not taking them, she doesn't have much of an appetite, which is a problem. |

Re: Prescribed drugs
Lithuania is hardly a third world country, are you honestly saying you don't have a doctor?
People with severe mental illness should not be going to the internet to treat themselves. Please go seek proper medical attention. Ordering from internet pharmacies is dangerous and should not be considered an option. You have no idea what they are sending you, the drugs can be counterfeit, sugar pills at best, outright toxic in some cases. Professional medical treatment, if you can't get it locally, go somewhere else. |
