swim also used to eat 30 pills a day but thanks to this forum she has now found a safer way to get her fix. swim highly recommends that swiy does the same.
swim has found that cleanest results are obtained from boots own brand of aspirin/codeine.
be safe

swim sometimes uses paramol and although the water is quite cloudy, swim is satisfied that the amount of white sludge left after filtering indicates that the soultion is fine to drink.

Re: best brand for CWE

SWIM finds Boots own brand co-codamol, although cheap, much more hard work than Solpadeine Max for some reason - perhaps because they only contain 8 mg of codeine phosphate per pill compared to the relatively 'whopping' 12.8 mg in the Solp. But then, maybe he just needs to use a bit more water, or try aspirin-based pills instead, if other people find that easier.

Klonogirl, you may be "knowlagble" but your friend next door is putting her health in SERIOUS jeopardy if she's ingesting 16 g of paracetamol every day. The recommended daily *maximum* dose for adults is 4 grams! Liver failure is a spectacularly unpleasant and drawn-out way to die.

Send her here here ASAP

To answer the OP, boots brand are around double the price of the 32-pack of co-codamol you can get from any other "non high street" chemists, numark etc etc. I think the binders in boots swell up too, makes filtering a pain. Apparently

swim pays £1.99 for 32 from boots, either aspirin/codeine or para/codeine. she finds aspirin much better for CWE than para.

Re: best brand for CWE

SWIM made a CWE yesterday with codeine/aspirin, and thought he'd hit the jackpot because of the beautifully clear filtration product that appeared in next to no time in the glass under the funnel. BUT there was simply no way the tiny quantity of remaining sludge could possibly represent 16 grams of aspirin, plus binders and fillers - a quick check on DF revealed that effervescent aspirin pills (which is what SWIM had used) contain an aspirin salt that's water soluble. GAH! But SWIM persevered, read something about essentially 'freebasing' the aspirin by lowering the pH, got creative with lime juice and hey presto, a heap of easily extracted aspirin base and an even-worse-tasting-than-usual codeine solution. Job done!

Moral of the story: erm, effervescent codeine/aspirin tablets still good for a CWE (and MUCH faster than paracetamol!) if one has citrus fruit lying around.
Happy CWEing everyone...

Effervescent tablets are notorious for containing high levels of sodium per tab. Stay safe, check the packet.

That's really odd - I just had a quick look on the Boots website and it seems that while paracetamol and codeine is OTC, aspirin and codeine is prescription only! Maybe they're aware that it's easier to do a CWE with aspirin?

OK, cheers for that.
Heh, yeah, I looked at the website but it'll be SWIM who actually purchases said product. Point taken, I'm still getting used to how things work around here!

Re: best brand for CWE

codeine/aspirin is an option as well? my dalek didnt know that. He may have to try it out and do some research thanks for the tip he says.

Boots are comming onto my dalek they notice him. Two different shops as well hes gotta go for another one.

You reckon if my dalek went to a plain pharmacy asking for co-codamol it would be more expensive than boots. - not asking for prices my dalek is perfectly capable he was asking for opinoins (y)

Razorbladekiss added 0 Minutes and 32 Seconds later...

Oh speaking of boots. Thank god for the boots store card, hes earning a fair amount of points a week!

Re: best brand for CWE

not neccessarily, sometimes local pharmacies are cheaper. swim has found much cleaner results using aspirin/codiene.
swiy must ask specificaly for aspirin/codiene.
swim is very lucky, she lives within walking distance of at east 30 different chemists (central london) so never has a problem with suspicious pharmacists.
swim must get herself a boots card, she`d get many points!
