asking doctor for adderall xr
swim was recently diagnosed with ADHD and his doctor wants to put him on strattera, but from reading around he was found many people do not find it effective and his doctor says it takes 2 months to work, but swim wants something that works immediately as he needs it for college (has trouble focusing in class, staying organized etc etc), how should swim ask his doctor for adderall?

Re: asking doctor for adderall xr
my recommendation would be just to be honest and straight up with your doc....tell him you can't afford to have a med that takes up to 2 months to work when you have college going on and you need something to start working immediately....tell him you have other friends that have ADD/ADHD and have good responses with adderall xr and you would like to try that

Re: asking doctor for adderall xr
Requesting Adderall by name to your doctor is probably the worst thing to do, he'll just think you're trying to get spun.

Re: asking doctor for adderall xr
disagree with ya on that one....what else are you going to ask the doc for? adderall and ritalin are probably the two most prescribed drugs for ADHD rather than strattera
SWIM has found adderall to be the most effective especially when he was in college for studying and just staying focused and getting work done |

Re: asking doctor for adderall xr
swim would preferably want adderall, in high school he used to take his friend's ritalin, which helped but made him kind of hyper and nervous. swim is also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder but has a very bad reaction to SSRIs, and he reads that adhd and anxiety can exist with each other.

Quote:
I agree that there is nothing wrong with asking a doctor about a medication for ADHD .. I ask my doctor all the time .. When you look inside allot of popular magazines they have ads for Vyvanse and a list to help you talk to your doctor about what medication are right for you.. Also if you need help just go to the website of the medication that you think would work the best for you and it will contain allot of information about talking to your Dr. |

Re: asking doctor for adderall xr
Worst case scenario:
Swiy gets prescribes Strattera for a month. Swiy goes back to his doctor after a month and says it's not working. Doc says "Well let's try something else then." |

Re: asking doctor for adderall xr
If SWIy doesn't want Strattera(atomoxetine) then SWIy should just tell his doctor that he doesn't like the idea of sexual side effects.
That's how SWIM got stimulants for his ADHD. |
