Alcohol tolerance from GHB? WTF?
I haven't gotten nicely buzzed off good ol' booze since last christmas, tonight is the first time I had the inclination to.
Since January I've been using G pretty heavily, a small daily dose or two and a sleep dose at night. I've skipped days at a time and been able to sleep fine, because as natural I was worried about dependancy. But today I did none all day and figured why not get drunk off your ass tonight, hey I have built up immaturity points. I've consumed a half liter of vodka over the last three hours going on four and don't feel the least biit drunk mentally, co-ordination talking and typing are fine, I don't feel my thinking iss imparied at all. Yet my body is going totally numb, and at this point I am feeling quite speedy and stimulated. WTF is going on here? I was an occasional drinker at best and all of a sudden I have an inhuman tolerance? |

There are definitely some drugs that have cross tolerances for sure, but G and alcohol are not one of those combos. They do however have addictive effects on each other when taken concomittantly. It all has to do with the microsomal enzymes in your liver that metabolize the particular drug. If two drugs use the same enzymes (ie CYP 3A4, CYP2D6) to metabolize, then there will be cross tolerance. In the case of alcohol, its metabolization is independent of the CYP (cytochrome P-450 system). Alcohol is broken down by alcohol dehydrogenase.

After using G for a long time I have developed a high tolerance to alcohol and benzos. It have something to do with the downgrading of the GABA receptors. |

After I stopped using BDO I didn't find my alcohol tolerance was
affected at all. I do notice that my tolerance has increased very gradually over time but otherwise I don't think my BDO/GHB usage affected my alcohol tolerance. Maybe I just didn't do very much. |

SWIMhave noticed acohol tolerance too. SWIMdo GHB almost every saturday, around 4 doses, and XTC, 2 or 3 good pills. I dunno which one is givinghim the cross tolerance with alcohol, maybe is inhis mind. Before starting taking drugs, SWIM drank 2 or 3 vodka tonics, and he was "happy" and "funny", having a good time for a while before needing to drink more, going messy and getting a hangover next day. |

yeah, before SWIM started doing drugs, he would probably be an alcoholic by now.

I have no doubt that if SWIM had not foundXTC and G that he would be a full blown alcoholic now. |

I know what you mean...when I wastaking GHB heavily3-4 times a week I'd go for apint on the weekend and I could drink LOADS without getting drunk. I'm no scientist but there is definately a link there somewhere |

As for cross tolerance toalcohol and G, swim hasn't noticed too much.Depressants work on the Gaba system in some way or another. SWIM has noticed a huge marked tolderance for benzos after habitually using G. However only a slight tolerance to alcohol was noted if at all. |

Alcohol Dehydroginase breaks GHB and alcohol down in the liver.
The more G or alcohol you drink, the higher these enzyme levels will be in your liver and the quicker you are able to break down alcohol or G. If you habitually use G then you will have higher Alcohol Dehydroginase levels and you can drink more alcohol without getting drunk. Also, G and alcohol both effect the GABA receptors in your brain. I imagine that there is a good deal of receptor down regulation whether you are using G or Alcohol. |

Alcohol Dehydroginase is the enzyme responsible for oxidizing any
primary alcohols into carboxylic acids. Since G has a primary alcohol on carbon 4 AD will oxidize that carbon. Eventally you are left with Succinic Acid. Alcohol will eventually be oxidized into Acetylaldehyde. |
