Re: Peyote?

What color are its flowers? Looks like a lophophora, so should contain mescaline unless it is a L. diffusa.

Re: Peyote?

What's the difference between Williamasii and Diffusa, and how can I tell the difference between them. Also what makes Fricci a subspecies, any other subspecies out there?

Re: Peyote?

There are probably hundreds of different habitat species, but the four listed below will not cross pollinate, (although koehresii will accept fricci pollen and williamsii is the only one able to self pollinate). Therefore in my opinion this is good enough to say these plants are different enough to be subspecies. There is plenty of discussion about this, so no flaming of swim please. here are some basic failsafe ways to tell the plants apart. If swiy googles for photos of these it will become much clearer.

Lophophora williamsii - dark green/bluey colour, red/pink fruit, white to light pink flowers.
Lophophora diffusa - light green with much less hair than williamsii and fewer areoles, white flowers, white fruit with lots of seeds.
Lophophora fricii - green/blue colour, dark pink flowers with pointy petals, red/pink fruit
Lophophora koehresii - green colour, white flowers with pointy petals and a lot of them!, pink/red fruit
