Opinions - Crystalline methamphetamine with a twinge of brown

SWIM's friend just bought a fair whack of meth and told SWIM that it has a slight brown colour to it instead of being clear (or at least white).
Whats the deal with this???
Yes, SWIM knows whatever is said will be purely speculation but is asking if anyone else has either:
a) Come across something similar themselves
b) Synthed meth in a dream and came up with slightly brown dope
c) had any problems(adverse effects) from such product.

OR if anyone knows for a fact which cut/impurity is synonymus with the colour brown (probably lots)

Now SWIM has whacked coloured amphet sulphate and freebase on many occasions (swim is an idiot speed freak) with no ill effects so is not worried hugely he's just curious. He realizes he could do an acetone wash but a) dosent have any b) is planning to aquire such a small amount; less than .2 grams, for it to be futile.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like it has slightly "oiled-out" where the HCl disassociates from the molecule - leaving a brownish freebase version loose. Quite common and often seen with other amphetamines - including MDMA. A good recrystallization in a Soxhlet extractor would have prevented this. It doesn't depreciate the quality in any notable way.

Panthers007: Any more info on recrystallization (of (meth)amphetamine) in a Soxhlet extractor and why would it be superior to ordinary recrystallization ?

Panthers not every one has a sohxlet extractor laying around..
and also there is more than one reason why the dope could be brown
yes it could be what you stated but it also could be that the cook did a shitty titration and it was burned...or maybee just impure
or maybee even just cut with somethign wierd
i mean the best thing to do in this situation is take like say 400Mg and wash then in acetone and non polar solvent and see what the return is
if its not that big of a loss it means its not cut it means its just burned or might just have picked up the color fromt he HCL when titration was being done...
in this case jsut recrystallize from denature alcohol and acetone

SWIM has come across meth that has a "rust" apperence on parts of the the surface. It is usually only on the surface of the crystals not throughout the crystal.

The meth smoked fine and produced a normal high...

Any idea what this could have been.

He sees this sometimes in meth.

Okay, so SWIM had some of this stuff and heres what he reckons. It was good but not fantastic, still very good though and I would definattley get it again if it was my only option.
It dosent seem to burn very cleanly, it's not bad but it leaves residue so obviously there are impurities present.

the brown color could also be from when its heated to dryness on the plate(shaker method of droping the dope) if swim or someelse uses this method and forgets about the plate burning in the other room then swim gets brown burned product

its probably just they fucked up on the gassing and left some freebase in there. FB meth is dark yellow oil.
Crush it up and do a dry tone wash it should come white, then add a drop of water and a little more tone... leave an walla clean crystal
