Getting a job with petty offense on record
Some twat snitched on SwIM about 6 months ago for weed smell coming out of Swim's apartment. SWIM didn't think much of it then, but now SWIM is searching for a job. This wasn't even a misdemeanor, but is SWIM fucked when it comes to getting a job.

Re: Getting a job with petty offense on record
swim doubts it, but more information about the incident would help. Was swiy's number and information taken down? Was swiy charged with anything? If not, swiy probably wasn't recorded, and the cops probably just took swiys information to intimidate you... at least thats what they did to swim.

SWIM actually went to court and plead no contest to petty offense possession of drug paraphernalia. they said it'd be taken off swim's record in 6 months, but who knows, fuckin lawyers man.

Re: Getting a job with petty offense on record
Wee Jimmy is in a similar situation as Jimmy was charged with a shoplifting offence and told if Wee Jimmy was good for 2 years then it would be written off. However Wee Jimmy is about to do an enhanced disclosure for a nurses job which will show any cautions etc. Wee Jimmy is hoping something as shit as this will not ruin a whole career.

Swims pretty sure that felony charges are what most companies are worried about.

Re: Getting a job with petty offense on record
As long as it wasn't a felony crime you should be fine. As a recent convicted felon who has been looking for a part-time to please my probation officer I can tell you being a convicted felon has killed my ability to work at national chains like Walmart or other night stocking jobs.
I don't even need the money but for the next three years I have to either work a crap job, prove that I have been looking, or go back to jail. I'm just glad it wasn't a felony drug conviction. Some of the places I've gone didn't care once I explained why I was in jail but those same places are run by men who don't see a problem with assault - but do with drugs. |

Re: Getting a job with petty offense on record
SWIM has Possession of Criminal Tools, Terroristic Threatening, and Drug Possession Charges on his record. Obviously he prefers to not let employers know that, and he lies about his crime record on job applications. You'd be surprised at how many companies there are that won't bother doing a background check if you check the "no" box.

Re: Getting a job with petty offense on record
An "offense" is not the same as a "crime". Speeding (pun unintended) is an offense, driving drunk is a crime. Do potential employers ask about your entire legal history, or your history of crime?
When you've been convicted of an offense- i.e., a submisdemeanor amount of marijuana- you can rightfully say you've never been convicted of a crime. Or so once explained SWImy lawyer friend*. *especially not my friend. |
