Amphetamines and the liver

Hey all,
was just wondering if anyone knew anything about liver damage due to amphet use/abuse. SWIM uses a rather high dose of amphets every weekend at most and bi-monthly at least.
He went to hospital the other day for a mild case of aceteminophen poisoning and would like to know how much harm he's doing to himself by doing amphets (he's not going to stop but would like to know how much damage if any he's doing to himself).
He'd ask his doctor but does not trust thier advice when it comes to illicit drug information.

Thanks SWIY's

Re: Amphetamines and the liver

Less harm than your doing with acetaminophen!!!!
Stay away from that, unless your want to destroy your liver.

Re: Amphetamines and the liver

Weekend to bimonthly amphetamine use sounds just fine to Swim.

It is when it crosses over to binging that it is a problem.

What specific type of amphetamine are Swiy taking? Some are unhealthy, but usually not the kind seen the recreational circles.

Anyone else have an opinion?

Re: Amphetamines and the liver

Liver damage doesn't appear to common, but according to one article:

Quote:
Liver damage apparently is linked to elevated body temperature and consumption of reduced glutathione in metabolism of amphetamines.
Liver damage is linked with intravenous use of amphetamines, mainly hepatitis, but this comes from sharing needles not the drug.

It seems that occasional use probably does not damage the liver much. Anecdotally William Burroughs, Jnr, who wrote about using large amounts of speed did die from liver disease, but it was alcohol which killed him not speed.
