Purity - Isolating Powder

Hi Guys,

SWIM was looking for an easy way to dry the dissolved codeine/ into a powder. He knows this was discussed on many other threads but he still has't found an answer, only tangents off other topics.

SWIM's far from a chemist, but how solubility is acetaminophen/codeine in rosonol? Would CWE work in rosonol and then you could just allow it to sit for a few minutes to allow it to dry? Just spit ballin here, trying to start some ideas I know thats prob a dumb thought.

SWIMS looking for any ideas that are hopefully not too difficult.

why would you want to have codeine powder?
SWIM hopes it's not to snort it because it's not active...
The only thing SWIM would see is to put it in capsules and avoid the bad taste from a CWE...
SWIM's opinion is just drink it and pinch your nose...once you get used to the taste it's all good :P

The taste from CWE isnt THAT bad. Swim found it tastes especially gurrdd with some flat pepsi <3.

But yeah snorting isnt a good idea if that was swiy's plan. Codeine has to be metabolized through the liver to have the desired effects ... if swim has read that right.

SWIY has indeed read correctly.
Codeine is a pro-drug, which is almost useless in its unmetabolised form. It is converted into the more useful Morphine inside the human body (more specifically the liver).

Anyway - since I don't know what Ronsonol is, I can't comment, but I will say to SWIY that the best way (after some testing by SWIM), would be to perform his CWE, then simply leave it to evaporate - out of direct sunlight, in a large petri-dish or other container with similarly large surface area - until he's left with crystals. If he won't settle for crystals, I'm sure it's nothing a pestle and mortar won't solve!

SWIM would like to extract into powder form so he can store it at room temperature, and possibly sell it. The final product would be either kept as powder and remixed into liquids or packed into capsules. Swim feels dosages would also be easier to gauge.

SWIM still haven't found any good method to do this. I figured some of you must a have a trick to do this.

Also on a more random note, SWIM is wondering about your experiences with filtering the final solution though activated carbon to extract caffeine from the final product. SWIM has tried this and it seems to degrade the purity of the final product substantially (although it definitely takes away lots if not all of the caffeine).

SWIM has an idea, but it's just theoretical, maybe someone here could confirm it:
Since codeine phosphate is highly soluble in water, and codeine base is insoluble in water, maybe swiy could basify the solution and make the codeine precipitate out, filter, and collect the powder that stays in the filter.
Swim thinks he read some discussion about doing this before but does not remember where...
