The experience:
After reading some reports of smoking passion flower and the mild marijuana like effect it could cause, SWIM remmembered he had some gel caps of passion flower extract. SWIM emptied the capsules and loaded into a bowl, he was not expecting anything really but is always up for experimenting. He took about 10 nice deep inhalations of the extract powder which did not burn much, not even a half of the bowl was gone and SWIM went back inside due to the excessive wind making it hard to light his pipe. The smoke was rather smooth and tasteless. He was surprised to have a climbing sedated high, and body buzz. The body buzz was very pleasant, and euphoric the effects were short and lasted about a half hour. After coming down the only after effects where that a slight sedation lingered, a pleasant one. This experience earned passionflower a spot in his entheogen stash. To get strong maoi effects you need to use alot of passion flower so here is the question.

Question:
So is it safe to smoke it and still drink alcohol? Could this weak maoi still make this dangerous?Edited by: RoboCop

Smoking and drinking is safe on any MAOi. According to this, it's too weak a MAOi to really create the usual problems with combinations. So, my answer is yes, it's safe.

There are quite a few species of Passiflora(passionflower), and infinite hybrids. I grow several varieties including the one native to my area Passiflora incarnata. I am sure that the potency would vary from species to species. Last year I sold the seeds and plants, but this year I am going utilize the large majority for harvesting the flowers. I have only heard about P. incarnata being used as a remedy or entheogen, but there are several other native species in the regionin whichI live and I have identified all but one in the field. I know that the toxicity levels undoubtedly vary from species to species so it is probably not a good idea just to eat or drink any passionflower. I know that many of the tropical and common red varieties are toxic and kill butterfly caterpillars that feed on other species of Passiflora.


Does anyone have any ideas on how to make an extract?


I have eaten the flowers and foliage in salads and it taste very good, and I do believe I felt something small, but I only ingested a small amount. I had planned to boil a very large amount of foliage and flowers to make a tea or brew, but someone warned me against it and said it would fuck up my liver. I am not sure if this person knew what they were talking about, but I did not make the brew.

The tea did not prove to much maybe a mild sedation but smoking it proved a much more cannabis like feel very nice but short duration. I would think it would be very worth while to do an extration, and then smoke. SWIM had been smoking passion flower while drinking a few beers today and the effect is very cannabis like for at least 15 minutes. The beers are unnecessary for this but help the aftereffects. I have no idea what species swim has, but it seems to be quite effective. I have read teas are only effective at a very high dose. Edited by: RoboCop

is the passion flower you have just flowers or extract? I
have the chance to buy some (both flowers and 30:1extract) and wondered
the effects you are talking about comming from dry flower ot extract??





I would like to know a bit more about dosing before trying it out.

What SWIM has is a bottle of Passionflower extract (from my local grocery store ) in gelcaps. He empties em out and smokes it, however it does not say anywhere on the bottle how strong the extract is. I do not think it is anything above 5x.

SWIM also picked up a bottle of gelcaps of damiana leaf, emptied and smoked no buzz, Pflower has it beat for sure.Edited by: RoboCop

As for the cyanide post he is talking about using it in large doses in tea for an maoi. Like he said he believes 1 pound of Pflower in a dose for one person 'could' be a big risk. So as for smoking I am not to worried about it, but thats just me.

Alright Swim got hold of some 30:1 passionflower extract. Now
swim tells me that between salvia and 30:1 passion flower is a toss up
for fav ethno. Although passionflower is in no way compareable to
salvia, but it is the only other ethno he has bought that really works.

in the bong and it is a great seditive if the mix is smoked a second
time it is definatly bed time shortly after! and swim has a very
hard time sleeping OTC sleeping pills do nothing weed doesn't help and
sometimes perscription sleeping pills don't work 2 nights in a row swim
fell asleep fast and slept the night

Would it be possible to smoke passionflower in a vaporizer? Would the effects be any better?
