If you actually read though pihkal it hints that shulgin actually never got much out of mdma. He seems to have a break through experience with 2c-e though.. Swim seems to agree with shulgin even in its purest form mdma has never done for swim what it allegedly does for others.. swim perfers 2c-e

Yes setting up a lab to make mdma would be illegal in most countries and does not seem safe.

To be honest, I don't think Shulgin is going to go around reccomending people to set up illicit labs in their houses!! Especially people who have to ask the question "What is Ecstasy made of".

Yes - his admonishment to not get hurt certainly pertains to more than just legal consequences. It also speaks of the would-be chemist handling dangerous chemicals with the same regard as making a cookie recipe. It's courting a disaster on several fronts.

I feel the synthesis and distributoin of any psychadelic chemical to be a fully ethical, moral and a nobel task.
