The needle and the damage done
Everyone knows the song... I was just wondering about the line 'milk blood to keep from running out'. The only place I could find any reference to the term was in urban dictionary:
"The act of extracting heroin-laden blood, for reinjection at a later time." I don't trust urban dictionary as far as I could metaphorically throw it, but the line still kinda haunts me. Does anyone know how much truth there is in this? Or what Neil Young was refering to by milk blood? Wouldn't it be diluted as hell? |

Re: The needle and the damage done
No idea really, i just can't imagine it being what Urban Dictionary said, it's just not practical and i can't see how it could possibly work, diluted to hell for sure. The only thing i thought it might be is the blood mixing with the heroin in the syringe but the "to keep from running out" part makes me wonder.

Re: The needle and the damage done
THANKS...(Totally sarcastic!)...Ever since swiS read this thread he cannot get this line/song out of his head!! ...LOL... It's driving him crazy....
To attempt to answer, although maybe this 'Urban' definition may be whats spoken about, swiS can't imagine it being realistic. First, the extreme dilution swiS is talking about. Second, not sure but, H is converted immediatly in the body into Morphine, not sure of the mode. That being said, this conversion has happened once in the blood stream, so 'Milking' it would not only be dilute but even weaker due to it's conversion. ??? Tryin' to get it outta there ??? take care....S |

Re: The needle and the damage done
Part 'Urban-Legend' and part desperation in times of famine/shortage of heroin/money - some junkies were reported to save small amounts for later use in this way. Whether it could do anything to stave off withdrawl is unlikely. But a placebo-effect could be obtained. So the Urban definition is sound.
Write a letter to Neil Young for clarification if you wish. |

Just wanted to agree w/ swiPanthers....The placebo effect can do more than one would think...'Back in the Day' swiS sometimes saved his 'cottons' (although quit due to several 'cotton fever' incidents), anyway many times it was obvious nothing was there at all (maybe in the nano-gram range..not even), but just the process of drawing-up, tie-off, injecting seems to get the brain working in it's mysterious way..... This 'placebo high' always seemed to help, but about 10 minutes later....REALITY...... S Last edited by Spyder; 28-08-2008 at 12:43. Reason: grammer |

Re: The needle and the damage done
Could you imagine injecting a day old clot laden syringe, nasty!
Since we are on the topic of lyrics and drugs, does anyone know what this line means in David Bowies Ashes to Ashes... Time and again I tell myself Ill stay clean tonight But the little green wheels are following me What are the little green wheels? I imagine it is something to do with withdrawal but where does it come from? Last edited by Solinari; 28-08-2008 at 13:54. |

Re: The needle and the damage done
swim thinks it's similar to jared leto's character in requiem for a dream. One scene, he's asked why he doesn't use a different vein because the one he usually uses was all infected, and he said if he didn't use it it would not work or something. maybe that's milking the vein?
