Denzapine (clozapine)
SWIM has just been given a 25mg tab of denzapine by one of his friends who has a script for them. He told SWIM it was really good for monging out on, good drug to stop all your thoughts for the day which SWIM could really do with since he has been going through a lot of shit lately and could do with a break from his brain. SWIM cannot find any info on this drugs effects anywhere so was wondering if anyone had any experiences with it.
SWIMs friend recommended he snort it as opposed to taking it orally? What are peoples' thoughts on this? |

Re: Denzapine (clozapine)
It's an antipsychotic. They have no recreational potential whatsoever.
As well as the usual antipsychotic adverse effects (well documented elsewhere), Clozapine causes Neutropaenia. Those who take it have to be on a special register, so we know when their Bone Marrow stops working! FFS! |

Re: Denzapine (clozapine)
SWIM ended up taking it anyways as dumb as that may sound. A few people that he talked to said it would be good to mong out on, whilst not really a recreational high, it did sound like it would be good to give SWIM a break from his brain if for only a day or so. SWIM crushed it up and snorted it. Didn't actually do that much other than make him fall asleep within an hour of insufflation. Then SWIM felt pretty brain dead for most of the next day, was near impossible to wake up. Not one to be repeated really.

Re: Denzapine (clozapine)
Unbelievable. As Lady J states Clozaril is closely monitored, & is a rarely prescribed drug for treatment resistant schizophrenia, psychosis in Parkinson's disease & occasionally Borderline Personality Disorder.
It is prescribed when at least 2 other antipsychotics, one of which must be an Atypical, have failed to provide relief from symptoms. Before commencing Clozaril blood tests are taken to test the patient's White Blood Cell count to obtain a baseline reading & to check that the patient is healthy enough to commence treatment. This result has then to be sent to the Clozaril Monitoring Service before the medication can be started, & is repeated 5 days into treatment, then weekly for the first 6 months, then fortnightly for the next 6 months, & then monthly. If there is any evidence that the cell count is lowered then the medication is stopped. Likewise if certain physical symptoms are noted - sore throat, fever, mouth ulcers which would indicate infection for example, also fast irregular heartbeat, swelling of the legs, amongst others - then medical assistance should be sought immediately & medication should be stopped until told otherwise by a medic. As your monkey found out Clozaril is a mightily sedating medication. When a patient starts Clozaril it is at half the dose that your monkey took, & blood pressure, pulse & temperature are monitored prior to taking then hourly for the first 6 hours. Major sedation is often noted even at the starting dose of 12.5mg. On day 2 the dose doubles, but is split into 2 - i.e. 12.5mg in the morning & 12.5mg at night, with blood pressure etc being taken prior to morning dose then 2 hours later, & again 6 hours after that. Titration continues steeply after that until a point is reached where therapeutic benefits are reached & sedation is at a minimum. So, not the monkey's wisest choice for an experiment/holiday from his thoughts... That aside the monkey's friend needs to have a few serious words put his way about responsibility for his & his associates health. If this individual is prescribed Clozaril for treatment resistant psychosis then there is a good chance that if he misses even one dose his symptoms may return, & very often when this happens it means that more doses are missed, leading to a full relapse & having to restart the Clozaril from the beginning Clozaril has a reasonably short half-life, so missing even a couple of doses has a massive effect. If he is giving his meds away then there is a good chance that he is missing doses, something that will get picked up sooner or later. Many people have reported negative & potentially dangerous physical symptoms within the first day or so of taking Clozaril, so if one of your monkey's friends gets a taste for the mong from this substance he could potentially die if he continues to abuse it without taking notice of these symptoms. This is not a drug to be taken lightly, & certainly not a drug to be taken unless it is absolutely necessary. Please read the attached patient leaflet carefully & make sure everyone you know who has taken this drug does as well |

Re: Denzapine (clozapine)
SWIM thanks you for the info. His mate is pretty irresponsible, don't think it is actually even his meds though, I know one of his friends is a bit schizophrenic so SWIM thinks he may get them from him. It may well be his meds but SWIM doesn't think so. SWIMs mate actually told him he took 100mg one day which completely messed him up, from the info you gave that was obviously a fucking dumb idea.

Re: Denzapine (clozapine)
If swiy is really feeling distressed and needing a break from his thoughts and actually willing to take Clozaril to chill out, why not go see a doctor and possibly get perscribed something more appropriate as the doctor may even think it helpful. Swim thinks a benzodiazapine would be much more effective as it would act like a "chill pill" but that is just swim's experience and swim is not a doctor.
