Health - Switching To Beer To Avoid Blackouts?

So, Swim drinks very often. Usually about 6 nights out of the week swim is getting hammered. Swim used to just get drunk and pass out, but now swim has developed a horrible tolerance to the drink. Swim now blacks out all the time and drinks until the only English words he can mumble are "Cigarette" and "Shot." Swim is mainly a liquor drinker, but is fine with beer. Swim was wondering if he started buying beer instead if this could help to cut down on blackouts. Has anyone else tried this with success?
