Opioids and the Heart

Can taking opioids cause a heart attack? I know if swim overdoes than probably.... but like just taking 20 to 40 mgs of hydrocodone have any negative effect on the heart? Or like 20mgs of Oxycontin?

Re: Opioids and the Heart

Swim has never heard anything about opioids and heart problems.

Swim recommends googling things along the lines of "oxycodone heart attack", "hydrocodone heart problems", etc.

Re: Opioids and the Heart

Swim found something stating the suddenly coming off opiates (long term use, a la addiction) can cause stress on the heart.

Found this on a medical site- "Morphine has little direct effect on the heart or blood pressure"

That's good. If we aren't finding much, then chances are it's not common or much of an issue.

Just play it safe, and always err on the side of caution

Be safe with dosing, and keep a phone around if you worry. When Swim tries new things, or mixes drugs, he keeps a phone right in his reach the whole time. And he talks/texts a lot during it usually if he can.

Re: Opioids and the Heart

Yeah, mixing a stimulant and opioid is known (correct me if I'm wrong) to be hard on the heart. But generally, that's more speedball type shit, and from high doses of both.

What you described dose wise sounds nice and safe to Swim. Just be careful

Re: Opioids and the Heart

according to SWIM's knowledge, codiene can cause an increased heart rate. it is the only opiate/opioid that can result in a heart attack if someone ODs on it

Re: Opioids and the Heart

Opiates would lower blood pressure when you're on them. But withdrawals would make your heart beat faster(from panic attacks) and if you already have high blood pressure, this could be a problem. But unless you're doing coke/meth/uppers then you probably aren't putting your heart at too much of a risk. But if you OD on opiates, your heart could go too slow and stop. But this isn't as bad as an artery in your brain bursting on coke...
