Is swims dr right or wrong about clonazepam tapper
swim has been taking clonazepam for about 9-10 months now between 18-24mg per day along with various other benzos and codeine.
he has tapered down to 3mg per day (quite quickly to his surprise) and gone to see his doctor for his advice and help with the last stages of the tapper. swims dr after five visits, blood tests (to make sure swim had stopped taking other drugs) and a few visits to an addiction counselor (who takes urine samples each week), prescribed him 0.5mg cloanzepam tabs to take as fallows. week 1: day 1: 3mg day 2: 2.5mg day 3: 3mg day 4: 2.5mg day 5: 3mg day 6: 2.5mg day 7: 3mg week 2 day 1: 2.5mg day 2: 2.5mg day 3: 2.5mg day 4: 2.5mg day 5: 2.5mg day 6: 2.5mg day 7: 2.5mg week 3 day 1: 2mg day 2: 2.5mg day 3: 2mg day 4: 2.5mg day 5: 2mg day 6: 2.5mg day 7: 2mg week 4 day 1: 2mg day 2: 2mg day 3: 2mg day 4: 2mg and so on like this. dose this tapper seem ok or is it a bit all over the place? swim is very pleased that his dr is helping him but is a bit concerned his dr knows little about benzo tapper for he suggested swim to go cold turkey from 3mg which under no circumstance's was swim going to do. swim gets the feeling his dr dose not like swim making suggestions because swim thinks it makes him feel it undermines his authority. all in all its not going to bad now the first two weeks were a living hell probably because of going cold turkey from all the other stuff. also when swim asked him when swim should take them like morning midday and night he said it dont matter just once there taken over 24hrs. any advice on how to use what swim has to make the tapper easier would be much appreachied. |

Re: is swims dr right or wrong about clonazepam tapper
With that long taper routine, swim thinks you should be clean around 2010. A two week taper should be plenty. Not to diagree with your doctor, but this seems rather odd. If it was swim he would do something like this. Week one 1mg three times a day for 3 days. 1 mg twice a day for 4 days. Second week: 1mg for 1 day. Day two: 1mg twice a day. Day three: 0.5mg three times a day. day four: 0.5mg twice. day five: 1mg in evening. day six:0.5mg at bedtime. Day seven 0.5mg at bedtime. This is longer than swim tapered and had no panic attacks, etc. Of course (here I go again) everyone if different. A lot of Doctors are clueless about tapering down and think you should just stop and have little compassion. Hope yours cares about you.
lorzapmail added 3 Minutes and 1 Seconds later... Swim forgot. Clonazepan has a pretty long half-life and I find this has an advantage to detox. Look Luck Last edited by lorzapmail; 08-11-2008 at 16:03. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Re: is swims dr right or wrong about clonazepam tapper
It is a bit all over the place, but at least the doc is supporting a taper rather than stopping it cold. Have a look through Benzodiazepine withdrawal schedules for the clonazepam taper switching to diazepam.
