Extraction - what about the seeds causes constipation

SWIM knows this might be a touchy subject, but he has to know.

Ok so SWIM read another post about someone making tea from poppy SEEDS, since he didn't want to grow the plants. He says it works great.
But SWIM needs to know what it is about poppy seeds that constipate you....the physical shape/size/undigestability of the seeds, or is it a chemical in them?

Well... in a tea, swiy wouldn't be consuming seeds. So that rules out shape/size/undigestability. Swim is no genius, but he thinks it's a chemical.

Poppy seeds never made SWIM constipated. They were always finely ground. Although seeds USUALLY only contain small amounts of opiate alkaloids, opiates do tend to make many people constipated. The main cause of constipation lies in the active chemicals themselves.
