Rehab/methadone experiences - how well did it work for swim?

Heya, my darn junkie pet lizard has 90% made up his mind to go to rehab. He's found he can't get much of anywhere in life while still using, and his friends who have beat the needle strongly suggest a "program" of some sort. They didn't explicitly say "rehab" and my lizard is actually in the process of getting on methadone, which he has seen work to an alright degree with his friends who take methadone. By "alright" I mean they don't seem to need heroin, but they will chip every so often, at least some of them. The others just keep their heroin habit going full force while taking methadone. My question is, does my lizard need to commit to a long stay in rehab to get clean, or could methadone do the trick just fine if he were motivated enough. I know swiy aren't my lizard and can't tell him what's best, so I'm not looking for swiy to tell him what he needs, but I'd like to hear about some of swiy's rehab and/or methadone experiences and how they've worked out. Thanks for swiy's input.

Re: Rehab/methadone experiences - how well did it work for swim?

Red Rock passed this story on to me:

Well i am only 22 and have been through 7 rehabs and the first 5 were 30 day inpatient which didn't seem to be enough to get me off heroin because as soon as I got out, I immediately went back to using. I believe that the last 2 treatment centers I went to were the best because they were longer term inpatient facilities (3 months and 5 months).

Before I went to rehab, I had tried suboxone and methadone and none of that worked for me. Now, I am on Vivitrol (an extended release naltrexone shot) that has worked wonders. I am over 4 months clean off opiates. Getting on methadone is a start since a lot of my friends have had success on that. I personally think suboxone is a better idea if you can get that because of its partial agonist and partial blocker abilities and its easier to come off of then methadone. Another benefit of suboxone is that SWIY would not have to go to the clinic everyday to get their dose since suboxone can be prescribed by a doctor for a month at a time.

Try to keep yourself busy and SWIY ever needs someone to talk to, I am here for ya. You can do it!

Wow man, 7 rehab stays? Boy I sure hope my lizard doesn't need to go that many times. Thanks for posting what has and hasn't worked, and I definitely appreciate your offer of talking to me if I need it.

Re: Rehab/methadone experiences - how well did it work for swim?

SWIM has been to rehab twice
1. 2 week stay in Plymouth the other end of the country. DF's and Lofexidine were used. Personally Lofexidine worked well for SWIM although she left early after 9 days. Went home had a toot and was back to square 1 except was £2,800 down from paying for rehab

2. 1 week stay in clinic not far from home. Subutex was used. swim felt like shit but was ok by the end of the week. The idea was to wait for the Sub to be out of SWIMs system as SWIM was on only 0.2 when SWIM left SO THAT SHE COULD GO ON NALTREXONE (BLOCKER)
SWIM got home and SWIMs bf had already relapsed (he was in the clinic for a week b4 SWIM was - same treatment) and was using in front of her
So SWIM relapsed again £1,500 down the toilet

3. done at home with Lofexidine. Lasted 15 days. Should have taken her Naltrexone but didn't stupid I know. Relapsed as she was depressed and couldn't even get out of bed.

4. Just done 12 day methadone detox at home, which has been the best in SWIMs opinion. But has however relapsed again but hopes to try it again and try harder this time

If SWIY can do it at home try and just keep to SWIYself and don't associate with drug users cause it will make cravings come
In the end the money SWIM has spent on rehab has such a waste.
SWIM thinks that trying to deal with it in the real world is something that will have to be done in the end anyway. So no matter how long is spent in rehab, the real world has to be delt with sooner or later

Good luck SWIM really hopes the best for SWIY

Re: Rehab/methadone experiences - how well did it work for swim?

Swim is also a veteran in rehabillitation establishments. They're good if you really wanna do it but swim unfortunately didn't at the time. Swim lasted 5 days in the first one, it was straight from 120ml to nothing but praying and evangelism(serious). Too much. Plus the manic ex phoning and saying she was suicidal etc- swim didn't need more persuasion than that. Gone. Poof-Vamos. Others have been probation ones and rehabs that swim done for the sake of other people(never works, gotta be u) so swim never really done it properly.
Swim should of- maybe that's why swim is still on 55ml? Green Government Liquid.....

englishkid added 4 Minutes and 43 Seconds later...

swim is stoned- Birmingham- Cheese originators, but yeah- go for rehab if you really wanna do it. Mind body and soul.

Re: Rehab/methadone experiences - how well did it work for swim?

swims been to 12 detoxs and 2 rehabs and none stopped him from shooting dope for more than 2 days after he left a facility. he also tried stopping use by using street (unprescribed) suboxone, it helped with the sickness but not the cravings. lastly he got on methadone matanince and that was the only thing that worked for him.
