Is Swim Hooked

swim has been using coke recreationally for nearly 4 years. never over does it only 2-3g a time. although swimnever goes more than two days without a charge. it helps him relax, escape from the norm and the sex is great. girlfriend swings both ways so swim feels by using he can take good care og both girls for longer. is swim addcited? or has he got a handle on it . swim never feels the need to buy anymore when stash has gone and only ever overdoes it when clubbing then private partying afterward. any body got any advice or similar stories ways to curb it????????

Swiy should stop, and especially while it isn't a full blown addiction. Some methods of curbing the comedown are non-addictive sedatives, also like Valium, but swiy would have to get prescriptions for them. So it can turn people in the wrong direction and make them into users. Just try the search engine and swiy can see what people say about it. Imagine swiy in four years. Will it still be the same?

There are many support forums. Swiy doesn't have to join them, some have religious affiliations too. Which might help because it effects the mind, and the mind effects all areas of consciousness.

People can become psychotic, and when they withdraw go into depression. It is also psychological. The fact that swiy doesn't feel effects may be that the psychological addiction is outweighing the physical effects. So how much does it really do for swiy?

It can also act as a placebo for your problems. It seems like swiy is in the early stages....and that if it is too much of a habit, boom, will turn swiy into a completely different person. Stop while swiy can and avoid rehab or addiction treatment...

thankyou for your reply. Swim has come to the same conclusion but find the link to recreational use too much of a pull and hard habit to beak. swim needs a few weeks under his belt but lifestyle must change. i know all the answrs but find it hard to put into practice

just becuase SWIM isn't on the street and spending his last dime doesn't mean SWIM is not an addict. that is one of the hardest things to accept, the definition of an addict is not what you think it is.

if SWIM can't go more than 2-3 days without using, SWIM is an addict

My friend asked himself this same question numerous times a week until after a month of use it was clear he was developing a frequent habit, which would of soon turned worse.

If you have to ask if you are hooked, you probably are.

There are responsible users who can indulge moderately and stay in control, but if you doubt yourself for one second, its time to cut back

Swim was seeing a guy who a while back was in the same situation with snorting blow. Swim could see that he was addicted simply because he was doing it all the time but he did not think he had a problem because it did not appear to be interfering with his life greatly. Eventually he switched to smoking crack instead because it was starting to irritate the fuck out of his nose. That's when it really started to fuck him up. It seems that it is easy for one to aquire an addiction to cocaine even when one doesn't realize that there's a problem.

NIK thinks the first two markers of a budding addiction are a) concern that SWIY has a problem, and b) SWIY is either unable to stop or cannot stop without experiencing dysphoria, anxiety, and depression.

SWIY has already expressed a concern; stop for 30 days (without replacing the coke with something else) and see how you feel.

If SWIY is not addicted, this should be relatively easy to do; like giving up pizza or ice cream for a month. Not so easy or can't do it? SWIY should be concerned.

Thanks Fight club but swim can't give up pizza for a month its illegal.
its funny that the pressure to stop as with any addiction comes in brief moments of clarity. then its all ok for a while. its the situations where swim feels that the drug is coming between him and his family thats when he thinks right dickhead you need to stop. swims wife does not feel this & swim thinks he fulfils his duties as a father and a husband well. but as mentioned the physical effects are now bieng outwieghed by the desire to stop which is why swim posted. swim expected to get some half witted answers but i have actually found sound advice through out the site.

Unfortunately that's how addictions (even with food to an extent) work. At first they don't stop you from functioning at life and are therefore not problematicatic with the exception that the compulsion to keep doing it is so freakin strong if you try to stop so you just keep doing it because it's a good time and life isn't impacted much. That's why people keep doing what they're doing because the concequences at this point are fairly small and they are therefore under the false impression that they are in control rather than the drug. When this is happening, it's hard to see that one is at a point where they are about to step over the edge and the drug starts to take it's toll and the person starts to fall apart which in some cases can happen very fast. This is not uncommon with cocaine as it is a very deceiving drug.

Swim is glad swiy has realized that a problem may in the making because from what swim has seen and heard, a full blown cocaine addiction is pretty hellish to go through. If it's hard to stop now, it's going to be a million times harder to stop once a hard core addiction has set in (and swim isn't saying that's inevitably going to happen, just that it can happen much easier than some may realize).

First off, 2-3 grams at a time, every other day is overdoing it friend. That's a lot, even if SWIY doesn't think so.

SWIM believes there to be some truth in the statement that when you start questioning yourself then there's a problem.

SWIY says they've been taking for 4 years at this doseage level. Is this the first time SWIY has wondered if they have a problem? Has anything recently changed? (Drug habits, sex life, family problems, stress level, anything)

SWIM says it's time to lay off. If SWIY either A) can't lay off or B) isn't willing to lay off because of a lack of a problem then SWIM would say there is indeed an issue.

Though, SWIM must say, it sounds like SWIY has a better hold of the drug than most others would at that doseage, that may make it harder to realize the addiction than otherwise. Keep that in mind.
