Nitrous Flashbacks

Has anyone ever experienced them? Are they common? Feel free to discuss or give experiences here.

Swim experienced his first the other day. He had not done nitrous in about 2 weeks. He was smoking pot in his car with his friend, and a certain favorite song was on the radio. he had watched the video to this song while doing nitrous/high on pot before. Swim thinks the song and not the pot hit that second triggered the INTENSE but short flashback. It was like a less intense, easier to feel trip of nitrous, was only a few seconds long, with a charger/8 grams. Very very nice to add into a pot high. Swim finds with using nitrous he gets hangovers where his stomach hurts, and he feels bizarre/otherworldly/not himself for the rest of the day, to the point of it seriously upsetting him into sitting around alone.

Swim is absolutely sure, for the record, this was an actual flashback, and not simply a vivid memory. Swim experienced being high on nitrous, hotboxing his car with his friend, with cold ac blowing. And a lovely song. All from smoking some weed.

Re: Nitrous Flashbacks

Monkey has enver had an actual flashback but last night was was on TMA-2 and 2C-B and had some nos. The first couple were fucking brilliant, but the third was absolutely horrifying. Although he doesn't get flashbacks he now shivers when he thinks about it.

Re: Nitrous Flashbacks

Oh man. Swim has never had anything even remotely bad with nitrous...well...

Swim takes that back. Trying to have sex while high on nitrous is a bad idea.

However, large amounts of alprazolam and marijuana were also being consumed.

Swim feels lucky to have a flashback like that. So intense.

Nitrous is always amazing for Swim. Swim has only had about 5-6 large, solid, longer term usages (boxes) and tons of experiences with just 1 or 2 at a time.

Re: Nitrous Flashbacks

Monkey has had one bad nitrous experience, and it was the combination of nitrous and 2c-b what did it.

The balloons he'd had before were fun and intense. However, his last one of the night was absolutely horrifying, reality dripped away and he coughed up some phlem - it then felt like there was phlem dripping off his body. It just felt horrible, and it made him shiver to think about it for a few days afterwards.

Monkey has since been told that combining 2cs with nos can be a bit dangerous, although he is unsure why this might be.

Re: Nitrous Flashbacks

Swim has combined N2O with 2C-I and 2C-E many times. He doesn't think he's suffered any ill effects.

He thinks the horror nitrous users sometimes experience after several balloons may be their bodies screaming at them to stop suffocating themselves. Air hunger is caused by the buildup of CO2, not lack of oxygen, so someone with a lungful of N2O will not feel the need to breathe hard like they would if they were holding a lungful of air. But that's just an educated guess.

Re: Nitrous Flashbacks

Makes sense. True, it is almost a sense of horror and fear, and does not always have a clear reason.

To note, Swim still gets nitrous flashbacks smoking pot sometimes. As in, where he temporarily gets nitrous like effects while smoking.

Always lovely.

Re: Nitrous Flashbacks

Last week, SWIM had the same flashback 3 times in the course of one evening. Note that this happened only when using a balloon filled with the contents of 2 cartridges. The flashback was from a nitrous oxide experience that had occured about 2 or 3 weeks earlier. (Also note that on both occasions SWIM had been speeding for a couple of days already and the first flashback of the night happened about 30 minutes after SWIM had eaten some Salvia).

The experience went as follows: when in nitrous oxide land there appear the contours of 3 to 4 people standing over SWIM (they are dressed as surgeons) who are discussing how it doesn't work, how there is an unquestionable limit to how far SWIM can go in his nitrous oxide trip. Then, when returning to earth as it were, SWIM hears 'It just doesn't work.' over and over again (the sound laced with that familiar echo) until body and soul are once more reunited.

Now, as said, SWIM experienced the exact same thing three times in one evening. The first time he was terribly confused by it, telling his mates over and over again how he had the same vision a few weeks ago.

The second time he had this flashback, SWIM, instantly upon returning, started talking about how he had found 'the answer' to 'the question'. Neither of which, however, he could remember, merely knowing that there had been a question posed and he had found/been given the answer to it. For over 10 minutes SWIM tried his best to recall both, or either, but finally gave up.

Then, the third time this occured SWIM was prepared. As soon as he 'found' 'the answer' he decided to 'return'. It appeared that the people standing over SWIM were concerned with putting up a border in the nitrous oxide landscape to prevent SWIM from staying there indefinitely (by the way, in hindsight, this all sounds as weird to me as it must do to anyone reading this). As soon as SWIM realised this he also came to learn these figures' exact involvement in all of it. Back in the ol' body SWIM quickly, fearing that it would otherwise elude him (again), told his friend that he had retrieved the sought after information. You see, every time SWIM had this flashback he was so in awe, so shaken and confused and so out of it that it was impossible for him to not let go of the balloon.

'It happened again. But I've got it, I've got the answer,' I said to her. 'Oh, really, what is it?' 'Those people do not create the frontier, they are the frontier. As soon as I reach it, I need to make a retreat. Step back, for not more than a few seconds, all the while holding the balloon tight. You see, they made me let go each time despite there still being laughing gas in it. This way, I can get high twice using the same balloon!' I answered her, breaking out in a sort of euphoric laughter and then bringing the balloon once more to my mouth, taking off.

Strange to meet you. So it goes.

Cally has had similar experiences of meeting other entities on DXM and/or N2O. With nitrous, they've often seemed to be a barrier - as if they were trying to push or trick her to make her stop holding her breath.

She wonders if this is other parts of the nervous system "talking" to the brain via symbols - if the loss of one's sense of touch can blur the line between what the brain labels "self" and "other".

I'm a bit astonished since that's exactly how it feels and I hadn't quite succeeded yet in putting it into words as poignant as those.

An interesting theory. The first few times SWIM actually thought it was some sort of distorted image of his friends, until he saw... 'them' while he was the only one in the room. One could resort to a variety of spiritual theories, but I honestly prefer Cally's explanation.

Re: Nitrous Flashbacks

Demolishing the mental barrier between self and other could be a spiritual path in itself. It sounds similar to some religious teachings, anyway.

FANTASTIC!
Snuffkin has experienced repeating trips on nitrous as SWIAlex mentions, sometimes months apart, however he found when he suddenly made himself sober up to recall/write them that infact this changed their meaning in the future, as though Snuffkin had taken one interpretation of his trip that wasn't quite accurate and in future repeating trips would find similar but on some key details slightly different. Snuffkin will try and explain his repeating trip later

Peace

SWIM knows exactly what you are talking about and can't help but admit there were some blank spots in the recollection of his experience that he had to fill in with the help of his intuition i.e. some sort of vague notion of what had happened then. He knows, though, that his remembrance of it all was soiled and made 'impure' the moment he was again able to say: 'What the f#ck?'

This, however unfortunate, seems perfectly normal to SWIM as one can hardly expect one's brain to remain fully functional whilst unexpectedly forcing it to commute from its everyday reality to a pretty messed up Wonderland. Remembering the experience, most of the time, is like translating a text in Old-Greek to English and your dictionary is missing some pages.
