Lsd & Pregabalin (Lyrica)

Has anyone heard of/had experience with/UNDERSTAND what might be the drug interaction between the drug Lyrica (Pregabalin) and LSD?

According to drug information Pregabalin is described chemically as (S)-3-(aminomethyl)-5-methylhexanoic acid. The molecular formula is C8H17NO2.

Relatively certain its a CNS drug, and the packaging claims "Lyrica is not known to be active at receptor sites associated with drugs of abuse".

HOWEVER SWIM wants to be CERTAIN!

Lyrica has been prescribed for the pain of fibromyalga and SWIM is going to have a lovely trip at disney's EPCOT center this upcoming week & doesn't want it OR the pain to effect the experience (also hears suddenly stopping Lyrica can be unpleasent)

ANY help on the matter would be greatly appreciated

Re: Lsd & Lyrica

i am fairly certain lyrica is active at the ion channels (calcium i think), and not at receptor sites.

*edit* ahah

Pharmacology and mechanism of action of pregabalin: The calcium channel alpha(2)

CP Taylor, T Angelotti, E (Eric) Fauman

Department of CNS Biology, Pfizer Global Research & Development, 2800 Plymouth Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48105, USA. charles.taylor@pfizer.com

Pregabalin (Lyrica) is a new antiepileptic drug that is active in animal seizure models. Pregabalin is approved in US and Europe for adjunctive therapy of partial seizures in adults, and also has been approved for the treatment of pain from diabetic neuropathy or post-herpetic neuralgia in adults. Recently, it has been approved for treatment of anxiety disorders in Europe. Pregabalin is structurally related to the antiepileptic drug gabapentin and the site of action of both drugs is similar, the alpha2-delta (alpha2-delta) protein, an auxiliary subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels. Pregabalin subtly reduces the synaptic release of several neurotransmitters, apparently by binding to alpha2-delta subunits, and possibly accounting for its actions in vivo to reduce neuronal excitability and seizures. Several studies indicate that the pharmacology of pregabalin requires binding to alpha2-delta subunits, including structure-activity analyses of compounds binding to alpha2-delta subunits and pharmacology in mice deficient in binding at the alpha2-delta Type 1 protein. The preclinical findings to date are consistent with a mechanism that may entail reduction of abnormal neuronal excitability through reduced neurotransmitter release. This review addresses the preclinical pharmacology of pregabalin, and also the biology of the high affinity binding site, and presumed site of action.

Re: Lsd & Lyrica

^^^ cymbalta is duloxetine (an ssri, which are well known to interact badly with LSD). Lyrica is Pregabalin, which does not act in anything like the same way, although the flamingo has no knowledge or experience of LSD's use in combination, and so, therefore, really cannot comment

Re: Lsd & Pregabalin (Lyrica)

SWIM is also very interested in this topic and would greatly appreciate any information. SWIM believes that lyrica caused a multiplier effect on the intensity of mushroom trip of theirs recently, because their friend took the same amount of the same shrooms as SWIM and SWIM had a much longer and more intense trip. SWIM is also on budeprion (wellbutrin) and sertraline (zoloft) so it may be possible that they had an effect, but is unlikely because SWIM has tripped while taking them before.

Re: Lsd & Pregabalin (Lyrica)

Zoloft would have done it. Zoloft increases the effects of many substances (including alcohol). SWIM can understand Zoloft making a trip last longer and be more intense. It's either an SSRI or an MAOI, he doesn't remember which. He took it for depression when he was a teenage and it caused some serious problems.

Re: Lsd & Pregabalin (Lyrica)

Zoloft is an SSRI.
Anyways, I have taken Lyrica before, for fibromyalgia, and even at therapeutic doses, I found it to be a horrible drug! I would not recommend mixing it with acid, no way, Lyrica alone makes you feel weird, and not in a good way. And it makes you all fat and bloated too.

SWIM has had no such experience, he's currently taking 300mg/day and it has been the only drug to do much for his constant headache. The only possible side effect he's experienced is tiredness, but not much more than usual for him. He has gained some weight, but he's been a little underweight so it's not a big deal, and it hasn't been dramatic.

Zoloft is an SSRI but I think it's been reported to reduce the effect, so I doubt it was that (i can't post links yet but if you google "ssri and psilocybin" the first result should be a shroomery thread about it, also there's an erowid questions about prozac (also an ssri) and mushrooms). I cannot find information on wellbutrin and psilocybin, but I still think it's the preglabin.

SWIM might try 2 hits of blotter in the near future. I'll tell him to make sure to tell me how it goes and I'll post the results.
