Oral use - How to use dip?

SWIM recently got his hands on some American dipping tobacco. He has some long-cut and some pouches.
He has experience with chewing tobacco but none with dip.
Can anySWIM give him a quick step-by-step guide to the art?
He knows it's not rocket-science but just wants to know the basic technique used.

yeah dude you just take a pinch put it between your gum and your lip in a ball for like a half hour and then just spit every now and then make sure not to swallow and dont leave what ever your spitting in around where someone might accidently drink it (ive seen it happen not pretty) but man dont be chewing that stuff its nasty but w/e to each his own later

So when SWIM dips, is the idea just to let the dip sit there, or should SWIM actively be sucking it, to bring out flavour/juices?
