Hello everyone. I'm new here but i'm not new to drugs. So i decided to do a thread where we could discuss about acid people (throughout the history), psychedelic rave parties and all kinds of experiences.
For example, i'm a huge fan of rock n' roll music, especially the 60's music and i'm interested in hippie culture that lived at that time and how they managed to get world peace by chewing a blotter. I'm also admirer of Hunter S. Thompson, Terence McKenna, John Lennon, Tim Leary etc. Well u know the topic... But especially i would like to discuss about the culture that developed from those hippies, after when 'the wave finally broke and rolled back'. To Goa. The new psychedelic trance rave party people who come together to one area and be there and alive in that corner of time and the world, to get totally insane and rave themselves free. This is a new thing for me because in my country there isn't too many psyrave parties around but about a week ago i had an eurotrip with my friends and we went to Funny Moon Festival in the border of Czech Republic and Germany and VuuV Festival in Germany (if you were also there then i'd be glad to know it). Well, those festivals were really mind-opening experiences for me. So go ahead, share your knowledge about this topic, tell us about some crazy experiences what happend in psyrave parties or discuss about inspiration that you got from acid culture.

Re: Acid Culture (60's, hippies, psy-rave people)
I owe my entire existence as I know it to Ken Kesey and his band of Merry Pranksters, which I learned about through becoming an avid psych rock fan.
My understanding of the cultural trend and sequence of events as it relates to popular culture, which I've been studying since I was about 15, is: The government turns on thousands of unwitting volunteers between 1952 and 1966 -> Kesey turns on half of California and creates Owsley's market through the acid tests -> Dylan turns on -> The Beatles turn on -> the world turns on -> Psychedelia dies out in the mid-70's and gives way to progressive rock which carries the psychedelic label very loosely into the 80's where bands like Spacemen 3 and The Jesus And Mary Chain re-introduce direct references to psychedelics/early psychedelic rock and turn on/inspire what would later become the electronica movement. Now with the invention of the internet there are so many genres happening at once and none of them are particularly popular. However, bands such as Animal Collective and Dead Meadow are becoming increasingly popular and increasingly more psychedelic. It's my theory that a psychedelic renaissance, musically at least, is in the mail. Fingers crossed. |

swim's feelin the psychedelic rebirth is comming on to, but not for anothe 5 years or so, after this perscription painkiller burst is over. all of the highschool kids are starting to like psychedelics opposed to painkillers, but it's split pretty evenly.

Re: Acid Culture (60's, hippies, psy-rave people)
swim felt that the so called revival of the hippie days came and went.. but only time will tell.. Swim has noticed that a lot of so called neo hippies just take a lot of acid and smoke pot.. He does not see them protesting the war.. also with no civil rights movement it will be hard to get people in the same mind set as what was going on in the mid and late 60s... People are not affected enough by iraq to protest and close down colleges on a massive scale in the 60s.. maybe because there is no draft

Put McCain in the White House - and we'll have a draft. Then it will hit the fan!

Re: Acid Culture (60's, hippies, psy-rave people)
I think now it's more about aesthetics and sound than any kind of socio-political movement or agenda. As stated above, the abolishment of the draft ceased all that. I think the clothing is coming back in style. The "dandy" style of dress which proliferated in britain in the 60's is becoming popular again. But let's not forget that the 60's were important because nothing like that had really happened on a massive scale before, and now that it has already happened obviously a second coming wouldn't be nearly as important or exciting.
In light of that I'd be happy with the resurrection of fab gear and psychedelic music and art--and while I don't promote them obviously: drugs. It's definitely happening in small circles. I live in a town that is eaten up with hillbilly heroin (prescription painkillers), but I'm happy to say that SWIM's circle of friends are all heads and freaks who stay away from that shite and wear their beatle boots proudly. |

Re: Acid Culture (60's, hippies, psy-rave people)
Swims small circle of friends are giving him hope for the future, but the large remainder of his generation scare the shit out of him. So pacified, so materialistic, so oblivious to anything that is going on outside of their daily lives. They don't care at all what the country does, most of them have never even been inside of a voting booth. The ones that do get angry and concerned don't do anything because they think its a pointless endeavor.
Swim has tried to get people to care, he has tried to organize gatherings and protests but they all fall through because not enough people fucking care. It pisses him off to no end. What do we do? |
