How to gain weight?

My friend went on a 3 or 4 day meth binge two weeks ago. He's done it about ten times in total, but never without a month or two in between. Anyways, this last time he did it, he went from 160 lbs to 145 lbs. Ever since then he's been pretty lazy, he's eating more junk food and stuff, and has stopped working out. He probably needs to work out more, but isn't too out of shape. Anyways, he can't seem to gain that weight back! Any tips? And should he stop working out until he gets that weight back or go back to working out every other day? Oh yeah he's 18 years old. Thanks.

He's probably not gaining weight due to junk food being a main part of his diet. Many beleive that if you eat junk you put on weight but SWIM dosent believe that to be true. It will make you unhealthy but won't necacerrirly gain you any weight.
You need carbohydrates (SWIM thinks) for this, breads and pastas and such, if he wants to gain muscle proteins are the course of the day. Of course excess fats should result in weight gain also but SWIM is definattley no authority on the matter.
Tell him that large portions of carbs should do the trick

At your friend's age his metabolism will be such that no matter what he eats, there won't be much weight gain. Working out and building muscle will put on weight, won't likely lose much weight from the working out. I've actually weigh less than I did when I was 15 because I was on the soccer team then and worked out 3 times a week.

Gaining weight is simple, consume more calories than you burn. Gaining the right kind of weight (muscle instead of fat) is harder. Work out, eat lots of proteins, take vitamins and don't aim for more than 1.5-2 lbs a week in weight gain.

I agree with fnord, it's unbelievable to some to see the portions that americans are served. Sometimes even as an american it's to much to eat.

But muscle weighs more than fat. Most likley since you stopped working out your losing tone, and replacing it with fat, which weighs less.

It's best to always work out and stay in good shape, that way you can feel better. Don't worry so much about your size. As long as you feel good and have endurance. Walking/running etc, helps with lung capacity, and thats always a good thing. Lungs and cardovasecluar (sp? slaughtered) exercise is a must.

You have to put quality calories into your body to gain quality weight. Eating bullshit junk food all the time is just going to make your friend fat and probably angry.

Your friend should eat things like chicken breasts with a whole avocado. Ribeye steak with a whole sweet potato backed in a thin layer of extra virgin olive oil. Nutrition is a hobby if you start enjoying it.

Also - tell your friend not to take any more meth.

smurf has abused meth in the past on a few binge occassions. it did eat smurf up & it has taken years to put on weight again, especially around the wrists. best advice is to not do meth any more & be patient by eating a healthy diet & waiting for sweys body to heal it'self from food & rest with no abuse from the meth then go work out again, by then swey can turn the bit of body fat in to muscle.

at sweys age swey could do serious damage to sweys body & matabolism as it is still developing, so pls try not to abuse drugs from frequent binging.

Have you got any evidence to back that up? Cannabis in itself has never been shown to effect metabolism, only appetite. They're two different things. you're right, sorry i was wrong. you get the muchies because of certain chemical properties in thc that replace your blood sugar. when your blood sugar is replaced, your body feels hungry because it wants you to regain sugar levels. so it has nothing to do with metabolism, just an increased appetite...

One good tip is to reverses the dieting slogan 'eat little and often' to 'eat bigger portions but eat less often'.. and eat at night too, lots of carbs and calories. And sit on your ass all day, be chilled, only raise your arm to eat more hehe

since this is a weight thread. SWIM wanted to ask
SWIM is nice and slim no real weight issues, however her whole life she has struggled with the bit of fat that is kind of at the top of the bottom just behind the hips. SWIM has tried every method known to man to get rid of this extra 'meat' but its so subborn. Short of liposuction which for SWIM is too expensive and far too scarey WTF can SWIM do to get rid. SWIM would have a really nice figure if it weren't for this piece of meat.
Any suggestions?
SWIM would normally be happy with what nature gave her but she is about to start stripping in a gentlemans club and dosn't want to be the chick with the fat hips

Don't worry, hon, men like something to hold onto.

As for SWIM, nothing she does or doesn't do helps her gain or lose weight. She stubbornly stays at between 75 and 78 kgs which is frightfully high for her height but at least she enjoys a good rack and thunder thighs
